About 7 or 8 years ago, I had the call not returned problem with the Columbia DAV Office. I finally had enough & wrote the National Commander a nice letter. Guess what, the head of the office called me. He wanted to know why I hadn't called them with my problem before going to national.

When I finished with him, he didn't have any more questions except what can we do for you. I told him I wanted my damn claim returned to BVA. Within week my file was in DC & shortly had my increase to 50% with more than 5 years back pay.

Sad that it took you going to the top, but sometimes you have to do that to get the subordinate agencies to respond to you; even after you have tried to give them ample chances to respond, answer the phone, email me back, open the door, etc. B)

I heard from our VFW rep exactly THREE times in the entire time our claim was with him. All three times I called hourly during business hours. I'm assuming he only called back because the person answering the phone got tired of my calls, or he had so many messages from me he couldn't reach his donut and coffee!!

In the past 37 years I've used all 4 of the "major" service organizations. My experience has been is- that it is the person (service officer) more than it is the organization's fault. However, I usually found the DAV the least responsible about returning calls. Also, the DAV's ego was, well, never mind.
