Question

i did have gonorrhea in Vietnam, i was very young and being from

the sticks, uneducated in something like this. i did not know what

wrong and let it go until i could not stand it any more and finally

went to doc. he gave me a shot of penicillin and cleared it up. however

now i am suffering from arthritis and wondering if there are some tests

that could prove if it is related to gonorrhea i had in Vietnam.i am going

to confront my doc next time i go to hosp. about this .if any body knows

or has experienced this i would appreciate some input.

Here's my problem w/it. An example: I'm on active duty - I rob a bank and get shot in the commission of the crime - I now claim service connection for my wounds, cuz I was on active duty. Give me a break! Whatever!!!! jmo

pr

well i for one don't have a problem with it especially when command or

whoever was in charge and i don't know if i can prove this, sets up a place

where the hosts are monitored and checked by military doctors as was

the case i was involved in. i never will forget getting called to formation

and the guy said they were having problems with people getting std's

so they named this one place where you could go where the girls were

supposedly checked by a doctor, military docs and that is where i went

so in that case it was not a crime in my view and does not fit into your

scenario. this happened during my tour around 1966 time frame . i dont

know if anybody else would recall something like this but there should

be some from that time who could recall this setup they had.

so in essence the military was complacent in the crime and

provided me the means to commit the crime without getting

wounded, also i may not have committed the crime without the

safeguards the military provided.

Don't know how long your were in for but how many times have you heard the platoon Sgt say " I heard that blah blah blah"? More likely than not this was just one of those "Ole boy's tales" said in jest". They would have to test hourly to insure that the "girls in town X" had not contracted an STD. this happened during my tour around 1966 time frame . i dont

wounded,- also i may not have committed the crime without the

safeguards the military provided. WHAT? Does this mean that if they give you the money bag that holds the money collected at the mess hall to take to the bank and then you rob the bank it is the fault of the military cause if they just had not sent you to the bank you would not have robbed it?? Come on shunk!! even if they still pay claims of this type you will not get any where with such an argument.

Nothing against you for each of us are quite different in our thinking -but we were ordered to a paticular place of duty to defend the cause at hand and not to go running around sticking our body parts into areas that we reasonably knew could give us the kiss of death. Now my personal moral opinion has nothing to do with your post but your argument above did not make any sense. My comments are/were not intended to pass any judgement on you and I hope you do not take it that way. Bottom line is that if the VA supports and pays for such claims then you more than likely have a valid claim and you should submit it!!!!!!!

Yup, I remember the place we had. It was called "Sin City" and was located in An Khe, 65/66/67. Yup, it had government inspected employees. I guess you didn't go there cuz you got gonorrhea. Good luck w/your claim, tho, but I sorta doubt you'll be successful. jmo

sometimes we have to man up and draw a line and say, that was my resposibility and my mistake.i'm sure other claims can be had with merit. but that is fishing way to deep.

i won't say don't file the claim, but your energy needs to be spent on your other valid claims.jmho

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

      https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.344

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
