Rate this question

Question

Getting things ready to reopen a new tinnitus and hearing loss claim. Need info.

Here is what I have now.

1.Claimant or Veterna's statement of hours of extreme noise with no ear protection provided.

2.Two buddy letters stating I was exposed as to extreme noise numerous hours with no ear protection.

3.Private audiologist hearing test chart and results saying hearing loss from acoustical trauma.

4.Example chart of high frequency loss test chart that matches my test chart almost exactly.

4.NEW EVIDENT: VA Ear Nose and Throat Specialist records saying hearing loss and tinnitus from acoustical trauma that happened many many years ago. Need hearing aids or surgery to correct both. Scheduled for hearing aid setup.

Been denied 3 times on this condition. Two different C&P's exams from same VA doctor saying hearing loss and tinnitus is from old age and SSOC said no connection to military service.

What else do I need?

12r3g,

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I was afraid of the problem that you practically have to be stone deaf to get a rating above 0%. Not sure what type of hearing aids the VA is giving out these days, however thinking that anybody with a 10% rating is approved fro them, that tells me they are going like hotcakes. as for seeing a private vendor, heck i am having trouble coming up with daycare money each month, so at this juncture in my life shelling out cash for things regardless of their need, we have to prioritize the need these days. especially whtith e economy in the can and no jobs and only being 60%, there is no extra money at the end of the month. i was highly disappointed with my 60% combined rating, but what you going to do....

Matt,

I got one of those small, behind the ear hearing aids from the VA about 4 months ago. I thought for a while that it wasn't helping much. When I take it out at night, though, it seems like I'm turning the hearing off in my left ear. I'm pleased with it, and it is hardly noticeable. The VA has adjusted it 2 or 3 times since I got it, sort of fine tuning it, I guess.

I also have tinnitus, constant since 1968, and 0% hearing loss. The hearing aid actually seems to lessen the tinnitus noise, too.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your claims.

Pat

So I called the va again regaridng the adding of my children to my file. When i received the original 60% SC, the VA stated they needed copies of my childrens SSN cards(don't mind that they already have the numbers) in order to add them.

The rep told me again it is process and it would take awhile due to i would have to wait my turn. But hey when ever they get around to processing it that would be good. I was hoping to have it by now, as I need to buy the kids new clothes for school and the fall. Luckily since it should be backdated tot he original date of the claim (may 08) $110 a month comes to around $1600 to date. So that should buy some clothes and put some food ont he table......you all have a safe weekend.

Remeber that the VA asks for evidence that military service caused hearing loss BUT the law states that a SC'ed condition is any condition that was caused or AGGRAVATED by military service. If you are being denied because you are saying it was CAUSED by service, change it to aggravated by. State yes, my hearing loss may be related to old age, but because of the frequencies lost, it is obvious that military service has aggravated my hearing loss. Therefore my hearing is worse than it should be.

Just a thought. A lot of people try and prove cause and forget about the aggravation factor.

hope this helps!
