ptsd Need Some Help W/a Jarhead Records

My counselor is trying to help a claimant w/his PTSD claim. Guy served in Vietnam, in the Army but was attached to Marines, his whole tour. Needs to find where the Marine Corps keeps it daily journals, after action reports, etc, to verify his stressors. Can anyone out there help me??? Thanks,

For someone in the Army to have been "attached" to a USMC unit for his whole tour in VN......isn't THAT stressor enough?

The unit should be listed in his 201 personnel file. He can order it on line @ www.vetrecs.archives.gov

I worked with a guy at the Post Office, when he was in Nam he was a radio operator that was assigned to a Korean unit to keep them in radio contact with the American Brigade they were attached to, he was taken once a month to his unit to pick up C rations and his mail and anything else he could grab like cases of beer etc, the Korean Colonel made his an honorary Korean Sergeant Major and they treated him accordingly Cowboy was really out there at times if you know what I mean, I understand why he learned a lot of Korean during that year but for him to locate incident reports are next to impossible, he was SC for PTSD and how they got it approved I will never know Cowboy died within a month of his Post Office retirement and he was only 61 they say it was a heart attack I am not sure that is the whole story but that is all his wife would say. He was a hell of a friend to me, he used to give me Buspar when he sawme getting pizzed off at the station manager and tell me take these and cool off Buddy was not worth getting fired over. Cowboy called the Buspar his "I don't give a shit pills" they seemed to work I don't know if it was the pills or the fact that Cowboy cared about me......

Well.....to answer the question originally asked....

In order to help his claim, the following can be used......

Buddy Statements from those who served with him

Letters sent from home (a smoking gun is especially if someone saved the post marked envelope)

However, did anyone check any of the inter-military newspapers, etc....

However,

Any Veteran who has something indicating COMBAT on their DD214....see the below exerpt of the law in the

"USC Title 38 1154 Consideratoin to be accorded time, place and circumstances of service

( b ) In the case of any veteran who engage in combat with the enemy in active service with a military, naval, or air organization of the United Stated during a period of war, campaign, or expedition, the Secretary shall accept as sufficient proof of service-connection of any disease or injury alleged to have been incurred in or aggravated by such service satisfactory lay or other evidence of service incurrence or aggravation of such injury or disease, if consistent with the circumstances, conditiions, or hardships of such service, and, to that end, shall resolve every resonable doubt in favor of the veteran. Service-connection of such injury or disease may be rebutted by clear and convincing evidence to the contrary. The reasons for granting or denying service-connection in each case shall be recorded in full."
