simple,

Hope this helps explain some things for you.

Keep in mind that the GAF (Global Assessment of Functioning) score is only one factor of several, that is supposed to be applied when the decision maker is assigning a disability percentage.

Hope this helps a vet.

The Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) scale reflects the

psychological, social, and occupational functioning in a

hypothetical continuum of mental health-illness.

GAF scores

ranging from 71 to 80 reflect that if symptoms are present,

they are transient and expectable reactions to psychosocial

stressors (e.g., difficulty concentrating after family

argument); no more than slight impairment in social,

occupational, or school functioning (e.g. temporarily falling

behind in school work).

GAF scores ranging from 61 to 70

reflect some mild symptoms (e.g., depressed mood and mild

insomnia) or some difficulty in social, occupational, or

school functioning (e.g., occasional truancy, or theft within

the household), but generally functioning pretty well, has

some meaningful interpersonal relationships. GAF scores in

the range of 51 to 60 reflect moderate symptoms (e.g., flat

affect and circumstantial speech, occasional panic attacks)

or moderate difficulty in social, occupational, or school

functioning (e.g., few friends, conflicts with peers or co-

workers).

GAF scores in the range of 41 to 50 reflects

serious symptoms (e.g., suicidal ideation, severe obsessional

rituals, frequent shoplifting) or any serious impairment in

social, occupational or school functioning (e.g., no friends,

unable to keep a job).

GAF scores in the range of 31 to 40

contemplates some impairment in reality testing or

communication (e.g., speech is at times illogical, obscure,

or irrelevant) or major impairment in several areas, such as

work or school, family relations, judgment, thinking, or mood

(e.g., depressed man avoids friends, neglects family, and is

unable to work.). Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of

Mental Disorders, American Psychiatric Association (4th ed.

1994) (DSM- IV); 38 C.F.R. §§ 4.125(a), 4.130 (2008);

Carpenter v. Brown, 8 Vet. App. 240 (1995).

my results of my comp exam were emailed the same day to the VARO. The last one took 28 days to finish and I had a rating and a check back to back in 2 months.

On Psy I am told it goes to 3 other people before they give a rating. Mine was positive but the rater can do what he wants.

I am going fishing for a month before I start looking at the mailbox.

I am such a liar, I will be checking the mailbox daily until it comes and then I will debate if I should open it alone or go to shrink or call a friend.
