Dry Mouth

To all that take drug's that have a side effect of dry mouth:

My dentist tells me over time this can have quite an effect on your teeth.

She has convinced me to start using a over the counter product called

"biotene mouthwash". It's thicker than regular mouthwashes and gargles

and I feel it is helpful to me.

I was always getting up in the morning, with my tongue feeling like sandpaper

and even all the way down my throat felt so dry, like everything was just so stuck

together and felt like I couldn't even get air down my throat.

I started out with a .99 cent travel bottle I bought at Walgreen's and

now buy a bigger size. If you might want to try it, just ask your pharmacy where it is.

It does help me.

Hey, you must have read my mind. I have been having this problem for years and nothing works for me. I just got 100% and went to the VA dentist today and asked what could he do. I also have allergic rhinitis and gums disease. He said he could only do regular cleanings and I should drink a lot of water. when I came home the first thing I did was call a local dentist and scheduled an appt. next week. I currently use Dry mouth tooth paste and moisturizer but it doesn't seem to help. It's really bugging me. I have even asked my doctors to switch my meds. but they won't. I am very tired of being Mr. dragon breath. Hope the new dentist has a better clue since I will be paying out of my pocket.

I think of all the side effects that I (we all) suffer from, for me dry mounth is # 1 or 2, except for sleep.

I went through 9+ months with meds to figure out which one was cassing this and I never found out. I was told to suck ice chips and chew gum by the VAMC!!!

Any way, for me what does help is to drink a lot of water and that bio mouth wash is very good ALONG with a product called Oasis moisturing mouthwash made for this problem. It is made by Sensodyne. Between this maker and the one Carlie mentioned there is a spray, gum, and even tooth past and a kinda of soft jell in the form of tooth past you can use.....

This is a big issue and a very big quality of life issue and these products are $8+ and I can only find ALL of them at a walgreens or CVS not the VA!

Hang in there...it will get better....
