Question

OK we are all aware of the dirty instrument contamination with the colonscopies at Murfreesboro, Tn, and in Miami but now the endoscopic equipment in question was also used at an ear, nose, and throat facility in Augusta, Ga. All three sites failed to properly sterilize the equipment between treatments. The VA has said it does not know if veterans who were treated with the same kind of equipment at its other 150 hospitals may have been exposed to the same mistake.

The Veterans Affairs Department is investigating whether there is a link between a VA patients positive HIV test and the unsterilized equipment that might have exposed thousands of veterans to infectious diseases.( This HIV has been referenced 2 days ago) Do you know how many vets really could have had their health compromised?? No excuse here, there are some sick bas*ards out there who are too lazy to make sure the equiptment is clean and STERILIZED. How about we let them have the contaminated equipment used on them,or how would they feel if it were used on their family! Never happen! When it comes to the vets, we are treated as second class citizens. I get further and more appauled at this disgrace when it come to vets treatments.

Dr Oz said more patients die of medical errors/hospital errors/contamination infections than diseases each year. Pitiful. Just pitiful.

Well folks 5 more tested positive so now the count is up to 44.

Plus the VA is slacking by not informing all vets who may have been infected to get tested.

They are looking at costs to notify everyone is expensive.

Guess the cost of treatment slipped their minds!

Take responsibility...notify ALL!!

Count is rising...55 and going up more each day. Put the word out to all vets about this major problem with the lack of correct sterlization of the equipment. It is not going to disappear!

The count is now 56 and you know will most likely rise if/when more vets get tested. The biggest most unbelivable thing is the VA now says it doesn't think they will charge the vets...for testing? treatment? Give me a break! They were infected at a VA clinic/hospital and the VA thinks they won't charge the vets..nor the co-pay vets. What next?

Somewhere along the way of following these contamination stories, I believe it may have been in www.vawatchdog.org I found where there were some of the valves/tubing similiar to the colon. studies/testings, however there were no infections or contamination problems thus far...read this a few mths ago. Will try to find??

Does this include endoscopy exams also???

And the count continues to rise. Some of the same equipment were used in the areas of EE Throat as prev written, however the positive results for Hep B,Hep C, and HIV were related to the colonscopies thus far. The breakdowns are:

Murfreesboro At Risk:6,805 Declined testing or appointment: 550 Notified of results: 5,864

Hep B + 7

Hep C + 25

HIV + 1

Augusta At Risk: 1,069 Declined testing or appointment: 22 Notified of results: 959

Hep B + 2

Hep C + 4

HIV + 2

Miami At Risk: 2,446 Declined testing or appointment: 81 Notified of results: 2,268

Hep B + 3

Hep C + 8

Hiv + 5
