Not Happy With C & P Exam

Rate this question

Question

I had a C & P exam yesterday for PTSD and it didn't go too well. I knew it was going to be bad from the start when the doc didn't even really greet me to ask how I was doing. She just got straight to business. I felt rushed the whole process and it seemed like she was in a hurry to get me out. She barely asked any questions, resulting in me having to rack my brain for things relevant.

Is this normal?

If I feel I got the shaft on this exam should I ask for another C & P exam for PTSD or should I wait to see what the rating decision is and then file a NOD if I'm not happy with the result?

Thanks

shawn,

I would wait about one week and then obtain a copy of the C&P examination.

1) Do you currently have a Diagnosis in writing for PTSD written by

a Psychiatrist or Psychologist ?

2) Has this type of doctor provided a nexus (connection) to something in active duty

as the cause or reason for your PTSD ?

3) Do you have documentation of therapy and/or treatment ?

4) If you are not employed due to disabilities have you applied for SSA benefits ?

I know how you feel, I filed a NOD after my 50% rating and at the new c&p exam the doctor told me "you have'nt paid your dues, wait a couple years and you'll get the increase". I knew it, like you that it sucked and sure enough the increase was denied. A little advice I did not know, if you don't get the rating you feel your intitle to keep with it until they give in. I was so angry with the outcome I let it go and now I have to refile because it has been over a year.

Carlie gave you some good advice. It would be best for you to wait until you get a copy of the exam.

You may be totally suprised. The Doc may have already looked at the records and just needed to see you.

Post again when you get a copy of the results.

Carlie,

I have already been seen prior to the C & P exam by another psychologist at the VA who diagnosed me with PTSD. He prescriped me Zoloft and Trazodone. How much do prior exams by psychologists affect a raters decision independent of the C&P exam?

I'm an OEF vet and earned the CIB during my tour, so no nexus letter showing a stressor for the PTSD is needed.

Shawn:

Relax get the copy of C&P but with your CIB and the diagnosis that you have and being OIF I don't think that you have anything to worry about.

Are you working? If not do you get Social Security or have you applied for it.

Good Luck

My last exam was kind of like how your was. When I met the examiner he gave me a weird look and walked behind me all the way to the Exam room. I could feel his eyes peircing me watching every move. The whole exam I felt like I was on pins and needles. I got a copy of the exam and he made three critical errors in my treatment history. He even based his opinion on the errors. He said that I had treatment for bipolar prior to service which was incorrect. I never ever had treatment or even counseling for that matter for any mental disorder prior to service. Grave Grave mistake on his part and then he opined that my illness didn't have its onset in service because of that. I actually thought I had someone elses exam. After exhausting letters outlining the errors I finally have another exam later this month.
