    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

Is your cardiac issues documented in your service medical records (SMRs)? If so, you need to start there....get that treated first...are you on meds for this?

I ask because I just had to have a pacemaker put in for sick sinus syndrome.

Do you have a copy of your complete SMRs? I hope so. If not, get them ASAP.

As for the hives.....were they related to your allergies? Did the docs ever come up with a reason for the hives? Hives usually just don't come out of nowhere. If there is a chronic condition causing the hives, then you might be able to claim the underlying condition....but if they are caused by a reaction to a med, or a soap, or something like that....then no.

But get those records!!!

Do you work? Do you have medical insurance? You need to see a "real" cardiologist. The VA docs told me I only had heartburn!....for over 3 years (and I had previous heart procedures done). Well, I starting going into heart failure and had to have emergency surgery for the pacemaker.

Have your hives ever come back?

Hives are an allergic reaction to something. You would need to prove that your service aggravated your allergic condition. jmo

rgero311975,

Your profile shows you are currently 50 % SC'd.

Question:

For what disabilities and at what percentages.

To get SC'd for something it has to be a current disability -

does not read as though your hives are a current disability.

Vet's can't get compensation just because they had XYZ while on

active duty - compensation is for existing disabilities or residuals thereof.

jmho,

carlie

Forget the hives. Just my 2 cents worth. Focus on that cardiac condition. Do you have symptoms with it? Dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath, stuff like that? Get back to your VA doc...demand a referral to cardiology...demand testing. With the VA you have to demand things....not ask sometimes.

what do you mean by wanting to get it sc'd so you can get free treatment on it?

i meant i have a pulse of 46 and when i was in service at top shape and 18 -20 years old my puls was around 59 on average .. i cant hardly get around now days..so yes if one percent that my army service did this i want help from the va..i was informed if its not sc then you have to pay full price and i can not work and have no job...so yes i thought i needed to be sc so the va would take care of it....i have research and researched all my medical records and my hives was the only trigger that i came up with...

50% and above are considered Category 1 veterans they get all medical treatment and prescriptions for any and all conditions regardless if they are SC or not the only thing you have to be 100% for is dental work or TDIU P&T is also entitled to dental care.

i was told that i could get treated for anything but id have to pay for nonservice connected condtions....so i have a pain clinic that i go to and they prescribe me meds i can simple take them to the va? this would save me 100 dollars a month.. i guess bc i when i ask my va doctor for a poditrist consult nothing came from it i have a bone spur on my nonservice connected foot so what your saying is the va will pay for surgery that i need on this..

Are you a Gulf War 1 Vet? If so, hives are apart of the GW Syndrome, a mysterious reaction to common chemicals. I would at times break out in hives on certain soaps and sunscreen. If you are that vet, perhaps worth looking into for a claim.
