    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

Hi,

You may have already posted this, but what do you receive the 50% SC for?

Do you have a copy of your inservice sick bay or medical records?

Were you treated in service with any type of tranquilizer's?

Did you have things happen to you while on active duty to cause your depression?

A lot of questions, but just trying to help you.

Always,

Betty

if you read this please post no matter how small i need help please..

OK

Long story short i got hurt out of servcie and i suffer from depression etc...

you got hurt out of service or in service ?

now the VA diagnosed and treats gives me meds for this depression..

What level of credentialed VA doc diagnosed depression ?

What did they relate your depression to ?

i want to file for depression for my medical stuff from the military it affects me physically emotionally sexually personal relationships....

So, file your claim to at least get an ED established.

i know the va will lowball me and say that although i have a current diagnoes of depression but i more than likely my depression is from my accident than my service connect issues..

What accident ?

how can i fight this.. i was thinking of going to a mediacal dr as he is a n expert on how physical condtion can affect your depression....theriapist could do mood disorder but the va will look at it like he has no expert knowledge of mediacl conditons causing depression

mh i was thinking that a mh diagnose of depression or mood disorder would be good evedence but a mediacl dr would be more wieght since he deals with physical stuff like my SC condtions...i have a private theriapist appt but i ddint know if it was worth going since the va would say that shit like yes patient suffers from depression which he was diagnosed by a va dr but that diagnose was for his accidnet and his sc condition have casued depression but his accident is more than liley the bulk of it or something like that

c&p man,

If you do this, you truly are going to shoot yourself in the foot as doctors

are very well trained to be intune to this. Always be truthful, remember

you are there for medical treatment and IF you were fine - you probably

wouldn't be there at all.

If you have depression and you feel it is related to your SC'd disabilities then that's

what you talk to the MH doc about.

carlie

Every visit to a VA care provider should be perceived as another C&P examination.

Example: I file for hypertension & after my following health care visit a few months later, theres a statement from my PCP in my health records that I have, "white coat hypertension", even though he prescribes medication for it & theres yrs & yrs of documentation & diagnoses that I have it. Including the, "at home" HPN records I keep every time I test myself. One of the things he suggested I do.

I file for MS, & I get remarks like," he uses a cane but I don't think he needs it". Even though theres diagnoses that I have one leg shorter than the other due to muscle atrophy & constantly have vertigo, ataxia.

No matter how much you like your VAMC's PCP bedside manner or how good they are, they work for the VA's rating dept & the VAMC. That's the way vets have to look at it, if they get health care through the VA.

These type of remarks "DON'T" show up in my private Dr's treatment records. Mainly because he actually reads my past medical records before the visit.

yes i know i never read my va dr notes until i visted this site ..and i was shocked at what he said in my reports... i had told my va dr about my bradycardia diagnosed by 2 private dr's and he said nothing and in my reports it just says low heart rate mine average around 45 for the last 3 years..damn any normal dr would say hey robert we need to see why your heart rate is low... this is why i know it going to be ahrd for me to get depression sc...

Now I stop and pick up a copy of my last report everytime I am at the VA. My last C&P was favorable but the rater cut and paced and left out key word I took it in with me at the last exam Tuesday and allowed the doc to see also and compare. I was speaking with a fellow vet about how we think they lowball you on perpous to see if you are just satisfied. I asked for a rate increase and was schedule for an exam in three weeks it took 16 months to get an exam for my claim. I have to agree that if you are not paying attention the wiil screw you, you are your own best rep like the experienced people here say if you are willing to work you can prevail.

yea i agree with you 100% it almost going to impossible for me to get depression since i have a diagnose and treatment with a accident and not a sc stressor accept all my pain and limitation from my sc...but i guess i have to start telling me mh doc that i think almost all of my depression is from sc ...private dr vs. private theriapist dont know which route to go??????
