    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

Comp & Pen Exam For Increase/ui

WHOLESALE

Question

Hi, i'm new here and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for my upcoming appointment. I am service connected 50% for mood disorder NOS. I filed for increase last November and have my exam later this month.

Over the past year I have lost my job, granted SSDI, and have had persistent depression, anxiety, insomnia, mania, and fatigue. All this is in my notes over the past year. I lost my job last year after I had a manic episode and cussed out a customer. This is also in my medical notes. My Psych stated I was in a manic episode which led to my termination. Soon after my termination I applied for SSDI and was awarded in November 08. SSDI is for the same condition, mood disorder NOS.

I also have a record in my Voc Rehab to discontinue due to ongoing depression and anxiety.

I haven't been able to work or do Voc Rehab since May 2008.

With what I just presented do you think I have a chance at getting UI? My DAV rep told me I definetely should get an increase to 70% and then I would probably have to apply for UI. Does this sound right?

Thanks,

Jay

Hi WHOLESALE,

This is only my opinion, but I would go ahead and turn in the correct papers

for TDIU. You have not been employed due to your illness and are on SSDI.

Be sure to take all of your papers with you to your C&P examination and

tell the doctor everything you have posted here. To be on the safe side.

I would take my Social Security Award for SC for this condition.

Better to be well prepared. In my case, some of my records were not

present for my C&P examination.

Others will chime in to give you their opinion.

Do you have a copy of the TDIU paper to turn in to the VA?

Thanks for the help. I have the UI form filled out and ready to turn in. I'm turning it in with my SS award and the VA already has my medical records. I'm going to make sure and do what you said about taking my evidence with me to the exam such as SS award and I will take my medical record indicating I was manic when I was terminated last May. I will make sure the examiner see's it all.

Should I wait about a week after to request a copy or should I go ahead and do the release that same day?

WHOLESALE,

Do you live close to your VARO, I would go ahead and have the

TDIU form turned in and date stamped. Be sure to keep a date stamped

copy for your records.

Does your VARA have copies of your SSDI?

If not give them a copy of this award also. Have them date stamped and

keep a copy.

It is my opinion, be sure to take date stamped records to your C&P.

For me it took A week to pick up a copy of the C&P examination.

Pick up a copy at the Records Department where the C&P is conducted.

Hope this helps you.

WHOLESALE, don't make the assumption the VA already has your records. Tell them that the VAMC has your records and sign a release for them to get them. The VARO and VAMC are two different entities and as such you need to tell them of those records. Never assume!!!!!

I usually get my records myself, review, make a copy, and then turn them in with all the important things highlighted. Is that ok to do it that way?

Jay

Welcome to Hadit. You need to review your C File Philip Rogers is correct

Yes, that is okay to do it that way, although the VA may want to get them directly from the doctor, as they don't "trust" us.

My important " Buddy Letter" was left out of my file for my first C&P.

Just by luck I took a date stamped copy with me.

The good Doc ask why it wasn't in there.

I sure had no ideal of how it got left out or why?

Do the examiners review the medical notes before the exam or after? Is there a protocol for this or is it up to the examiners discretion?

The examiners are supposed to review the c-file, before the exam. Whether they do it or not is another matter. If the file is small they probably will, however, if the file is extensive, probably not. They will however state in their report that they did.

i have my TDUI packet all ready to go and labeled. I will turn it in a day before my exam. I don't want the VA to delay my exam because of me turning in new evidence. They may feel the examiner needs time to review it and then postpone my exam. I've waited too long and it would kill me to have a delay.

But I do have it all ready and it looks like a college term paper. I even have it in a clear plastic folder so the papers don't get misplaced. Cover sheet too with evidence numbered.
