    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

If I understand you correctly, you have been rated 70% for psoriasis?

You are requesting an increase in benefits due to your psoriasis?

Or are you claiming something to do with you joints? And that is why the radiologist has become involved, also the Navy Hospital?

You have received award for increase? Is this the increase from 20% - 70%? And you wish to submit new info from the rheumtologist, radiologist, and I guess, an orthopaedist? before your year is up.

Have you filed a NOD (Notice Of Disagreement) about this award? And, did you state in this NOD what it was that you disagreed about?

Just trying to understand what you were awarded?

What you were awarded for?

larry - sorry if I dont make sense - when i submitted my claim back in 8/08 the va just reviewed the rheumatologist records about my conditions over a 10 year period. so they increased to 70%. since my filing my condition has worsen to support this : took x-rays, range of motion test of my neck, and his the doc let saying my condition is chronic. i wrote a letter to to va ( iguess informal claim) attached all the letters requesting an increase. rec call yesterday asking me what i wanted, so i am the process of rewriting another letter as for revaltion of my sc as it has increased in severity. my question what type of claim should it be as I just got the new info recently doc ltr etc. i think i am confusing the issue can you help me sort it out and give me proper direction tks larry

Is the 70 percent a combination of the psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis? I have been rated at 60 percent for the arthitis and am waiting for a reconsideration on my psoriasis which should be rated at 60 for a total of 84% rounded down to 80%. You should have been rated on the conditions separately, with the arthritis being rated like rheumatoid.

By the way, if the arthritis is bad, I hope you are taking Enbrel; it has been a lifesaver for me, and has kept me from going IU.

Okay, Applejack, hang with me here.

Diablogun has asked a couple of good questions, as I am not at all familiar with psoriasis. I didn't even know that psoriasis had concurrent arthritis involved with it.

As Diablogun has pointed out, the psoriasis and the arthritis should be rated seperately.

Are you still able to work? And, are you working?

As far as what type of claim it should be.......if it is for an increase in psoriasis...the most you can get according to diagnositic code 7816 is 60%

If it is for arthritis, it is going to depend upon which joint(s) are involved and the degree of involvement (range of motion, pain upon movement, etc).

You can, conceivably, receive 100% or more, according to, like I said, what is involved and to what extent.

Did this last exam indicate whether you would be, welll, I guess what I am asking is: Would you be a candidate for Total Disability due to Individual Unemployability (TDIU)? Pleas do not construe this to mean that I am advocating that you suddenly become "unemployed"......but, if there was any indication that you are or should possibly be, unemployed due to your condition, then you most surely will want to fill out the application form required for you to be considered for TDIU (which will get you the equivalent of 100% disability along with other possible benefits. You certainly have the necessary percentages of disability AT THIS TIME to qualify you for at least making the application. It would help if one of your doctors stated that they were of the opinion that you were, indeed, unable to work because of your conditions.

this is just a suggestion and that is all it is, I do not advise anyone to quit working if they are able and wish to remain employed.

I would advise simply writing them back and telling them just what you have told us......that you condition has worsened since the last increase in rating percentage and that you are applying for all the benefits due you at this time, to include consideration for TDIU, IF THAT IS WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO, for now is a good time to do that, paperwork-wise.

I'm kinda tired right now.....been sorta fighting some new pains that I've not been able to conquer lately....so if I don't resemble making sense...it's just that I'm pretty deep into my Tylenol #3's...and I'ma gonna go to bed....see y'all in the next day.

They can use a request for increase to review you. If you are not able to work due to this condition and are getting SSD for it than asking VA to up it to 100% is a good idea.

If you have a job it is not.
