    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

A C & P exam can be for any service connection you claim

example:

depression( PTDS or mood or anxiety major depressive disorders and many others) under depression

prostate problems

bladder problems

review your doctor (s) notes to see if you have a diagnosis and then look up the system under CFR 38 part 4 this may start

Being honest is the best way to go! But it is OK to be confused, because if that's the way you feel, then that is the truth. Don't try to make it complicated, because the C&P exam is just part of what the rater will base their decision on. The letter you received for your C&P exam should tell you what the C&P exam will be for. It is my understanding that a different C&P will be given for each diagnosis claimed, but I may be wrong. If so, someone will correct me, because we all learn together here. B)

I know this Exam is for PTSD, you mention to me about dianostics, personality surveys, they give sometimes. You warned me about about one of them, can you give that name

When I turned in my claims for orthopaedic problems, there was one for my left knee and right knee and another for my right and left hips and another for my lumbar/lower back.

They had the C&P performed by the same doc on the same visit (including the X-rays, they just "stood me up and started shootin'". By the time they were done with the X-rays and CAT scans, then he just made his report on the whole mess which is my body!

Forgive me if I do not recall ever mentioning a specific diagnosis or personality survey. I did mention that I was told that I have PTSD by my p-docs in South Dakota, but that since I did not have a verifiable stressor, it was not something to be pursued. When I got out of the service, I did not even like myself, but that is a different story. The biggest personality survey I can think of is the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Index or MMPI for short, so maybe that's it.

Hope this helps.

I apologize but you are still spinning your wheels. It all depends on what you filed for service connection. There are two types of C & P exams they are mental and general exams. The mental C & P exams would address any mental disorder/diagnosis you have or claimed. A general exam is like a physical exam that would address any physical conditions/diagnosis you have or claimed. So what is/are your current claims/diagnosis? Then look up the information in the CFR 38 part 4. The main thing is have you been treated by a psychiatrist or a physician during or after the military and of course if you have been treated recently. If you have a copy of your claim, what form did you fill out when you filed your claim?

I don't have a copy

My C&P exam is for PTSD, I am at peace with that

Mental health was everybody else problem until April 09, when i had a anger outburst, that made me aware that it might be a result of something called PTSD

Some are having trouble believing that it was new to me, but my Tunnel vision is as narrow as it can

Because of some polite believers e-mails, i am again focused and now what I going too

and what is needed to do

sgm,

What was your stressor and how do you feel is has been verified by VA.

What procedure did VA use to verify your stressor?

I submiited my copies of awards, CIB, bronze stars, Air medal Arcom/V, RVN Cross of Gallantry, and Star and Stripes article for being surrounded by the NVA, and call their location without being detected, my 214 has all on it, and IRIS told me that verified my stressor throgh National Archive or their system can't remember. Buddy letters, unit awards, and major battles where my unit was recognized and awarded.

Hamburger Hill, my last major battle in RVN, two TET offensives with individual awards as well as unit awards. All I know I got a call and they asked me if I could be at C&P Exam in one week. WOW, what a surprise!!! They sent me a map, from my domicle, and told me they were going to payme mileage, or arrange transportation. This is unusual isn't it

smg,

Bronze stars - how many did you get ?

Of all you mentioned the CIB is about all that is needed to show combat veteran

and lessen the stressor requirement, if everything else falls in line.

I feel for VA to arrange transportation for you would certainly be unusual

and I've never heard of it being done.

jmho,

carlie

Due to my conditions and my finances VA used to arrange me transportation to and from all my appointments. Now I have to make it on my own. It is something that can be done through the social workers office but they don't like to tell you that. So It could be very possible

Yes, they went out of there way to make sure I get there, two Bronze Stars, there was a couple awards I didn't know I had until I unpacked some boxes, and got my official file. It was a confused time,

just place my alert up, when I came out of MH appointment and hour later a call. But i am calm now and ready for the next step C&P
