    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

I commend you Skunk for helping him.

If you mean by wound that he has a Gun Shot Wound and the PH is on his DD 214-the VA will concede a stressor occurred.

A wonderful friend of mine denied PTSD for years and years.

Once he got the diagnosis he was awarded 50%-he has 2 Purple Hearts-and his stressors didnt need to be verified.

skunk,

Yes, at this point it maybe best for him to see a VSO

and get a claim started.

It might be good for you to check over his claim application prior to

it being submitted.

Has he gone to VA or a private doctor for any of his medical (including mental health)

problems, treatment or meds ? If so, then get copies from private medical care.

If he doesn't have them - be sure he requests a copy of his complete file,

any and all VAMC's records and also anything NPRC should have.

If there is a Vet Center where he lives, maybe he can sign up for some care

there, either individual or group.

Has he ever gotten a diagnosis or treatment for PTSD ?

jmho,

carlie

I went through the DAV. Not sure if there is any consensus on "who's better", just mine worked out with them and MOSTLY hadit members advice and the vast information consortium.

Speaking of Nam vets, I felt a tinge of guilt this morning remembering that I met a vet in a Walmart Subway's restaurant a year or so ago who I didn't get back in touch with. He or someone in the grind misplaced his service medical records. I remember he said he had been put on that psych drug trans or tropazam or something? started with a "t" while in the sh*t and was basically drummed out when he zombed out and became awol or something in-country. Your concern for your bud has me thinking I need to find that old dusty country road somewhere within ten miles of me, dig out that phone number and help a fellow vet as I have been helped myself.

you got it carlie ,i plan to work with this guy as much as i feel i can do without getting above my head and jeopardizing his claim. the main thing is i got him started when i called a few minutes ago he was digging out his paperwork.

i want to help him win and he is my first real project . if i can i would like to help a lot of vets. it is important though to realize to stay within my knowledge base.

that is why i was thinking vso to start out and keep an eye on their handling of his claim.
