    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

Hysterectomy

Breakthechain

Question

Hello everyone,

I was just informed by my current doctor that I need to have a hysterectomy. I'm scheduled for surgery on Oct 6. I'm a little worried becasue I just started my current job about 11 months ago and I was told I will need to be out for about 2-8 weeks for recovery. My Supervisor stated my position is secure ( I pray she's telling the truth), but I will be on leave without pay for the duration of my recovery. I don't have enough sick or annual leave to cover the time off (used most of my leave for doctors appt and VA appts).

I'm currently rated at 80%. I still have a claim out for bilateral feet problems (the Rater didn't address the issue during the processing of my original claim, so the opened a new claim for my feet. I also asked for an increase on other issues, so my original claim was reopened).

Is there anything I can do to help cover my lost of wages during my recovery time? Can I be service Connected for the hysterectomy? I faxed my regional office the information I had from my current provider and a radiology and doctor's report from 2003 showing I had an enlarged uterus.

Your help will be greatly appreciated,

Lisa

I assume you are a federal employee with the verbage you are using.

It is imparative all folks have some sort of Short or long term disibility policy as well as Credit card insurance. (to cover cc bill sin the event of a temporary disability)

it costs a little to do this but it is worth it because of times like this.

As a federal employee are you in a career or career conditional status?

Your Job is safe.

Does your facility offer a leave donor program. This may help some and In some cases I have seen it hold someone over.

Good Luck.

J,

I'm a State of GA employee. The policy states I have to be employed for over twelve months in order to take medical leave. My supervisor stated my position is safe (one reason is because it take the State about 6 months to fill a critical position). I emailed Iris and they sent a response stating I could apply for Increased Compensation Based on Unemployability for the duration that I'm out for recovery. Do you know if that's correct?

If the condition is service connected you can apply for increased comp and Temp 100 percent convalesent.

Even if the claim is filed the time frame to wait will be way too long. But you must take care of number 1. Yourself. You have to do what you have to do. Dont put it off if it is very serious. Donk risk it.

Hang in there.

I just filed the claim for SC on 29 Aug. Yes, its serious! That is the reason I'm risking my career. I know my position here at Public Health can be refilled. I just completed the form and will fax it tomorrow once I have all the documentation I need to send with it.

How long does it take for the for the Increase Compensation Base on Unemployability Form to be approved? Can I file it before the surgery?

Welcomne to Hadit and good luck with your surgery. My wife had it and she did great it was me that needed drugs. B)

Is you wife a member of Hadit? because I have a million questions. I want to know what to expect after the surgery? I have read many horror stories. I'm scheduled for the laser hysterectomy and I wnat to know what to expect and what questions should I ask my provider. I try to stay calm around my husband, kids and coworkers. I try to put on a happy face so I don't worry them but to be honest, I'm a little scared :D

I'm not upset about losing a reproductive organ, I'm worried about the surgery. I had a close friend earlier this year go in for heart surgery, the surgery went fine but he died in the recovery room. I'm a praying person and I have faith in my God, but I'm human and I'm still a little scared.

Getting this tied to your service is the key to the convalescence rating.

Is there anything in your SMRs to support SC of this condition?

Well in 1989 I had had surgery on my uterus. The doctor stated I had a septate uterus (shaped like bunny ears instead of being pear shaped) and that was the reason for my misscarriages. In 2003 I had an exam for my overactive bladder and the doctor noted a defect in my uterus, my PCM sent me to radiology and the report stated I had a cyst or phylop and a enlarged uterus. My PCM told me then that I might have to have a hysterectomy. I had a pap smear every year since then but everything was normal. I continued to have pelvic pain.

Once I retired in 2008 I filed for Pelvic Pain but was denied. I just had mu annual pap smear and the dictor told me my uterus was the size of a 14 week pregnant person and I probably have fibriods (I'm scheduled for an ultrasound in a few days) but he went ahead and scheduled me for the hysterectomy because I'm having other problems aswell.
