Yes John, my local grocery about two blocks away is hiring for door greeters and baggers.

I agree with what you're saying here and the truth is that anyone on IU ain't gonna take a door greeting job makeing 9 bucks an hour. Especially if they have a family to feed.

dh

You may be able to work on and off with SSD, but that is peanuts compared to what we get from IU or 100%. If you monkey around with those benefits it may not be so easy to get them started up again. The feds may encourage you to try working, and then they come down on you with an ax. If you are over 40 years old you better think long and hard about playing around with these disability benefits. You know even very qualified people over the age of 40 can't get jobs in this environment with 10-15% unemployment. I am almost 60 years old. If I recovered next week and was able to work where would I work? Could I get a job at the grocery store bagging groceries?

Just the State benefits like property tax exemption creates a great incentive to never work again if you are P&T. Also having your dependents on ChampVA and dependent educational benefits are worth thousands of tax free dollars. If you figure all that into a P&T rating I wonder what it is really worth in dollars? I bet it is worth much more than the average Joe could earn at a decent job. If the VA improves DIC and life insurance for disbled vets then the value of P&T rating gets even greater. We may be the only ones with a reliable income in the USA. I worked at the Post Office for 20 years, and I get more money now via SSD, IU, OPM and my disability insurance than I ever got working. I did not plan it that way, but they threw me into the briar patch.

DH,

Yes, they and I are aware of the rules for the work program.

Both of these people had to retain counsel to get their benefits re-instated.

The trial return to work period may go smooth for the majority but there are

problem cases in SSA just as anywhere. It is for this reason I suggest

people really research things before they place any risk into loosing

benefits that at times may have been difficult to obtain.

Your area is fortunate to still have employment opportunities for even

door greeters and baggers. My area doesn't even have openings for those jobs.

When there is an opening it generally starts at a pay rate of $7.25 an hour

and only allows upto 30 hours with no benefits.

A friend of mine got laid off from Verizon recently due to Reduction

In Workforce (RIF) she had been with them over 20 years.

John,

I'm so glad your financial needs are being met, at least this offers

a little bit of a secure feeling.

When I posted on this thread, I was only speaking of SDDI.

Only SSDI and the Work Program.

I didn't see where the thread mentioned veterans who receive VA benefits at 100% and SSDI.

VA IU is mentioned at the bottom of the original post. Look at the red * sentence below my name.

Your Topic states: Replying to Ticket to Work Program - Social Security.

My husband did and has never received benefits from the VA.

So for him the program was marvelous for him.
