After The Emg/nerve Study?

Question

I file a claim to increase my rating in left knee due to another Surgery for tourn Cartlage. The VA scheduled a C/P and I went they where looking at the leg for other reason such as loss of feeling and pain. I resenly had spinal fusion of the L-4 and L-5. Since the fusion on a follow-up visit the nero doc stated the bones didn't fuse quickly ennough and the bones shifted causing them to agian inpinge on the nerve. He claimed that the impingment was causing the pain as before. This is the second surgery on my back in the last two years. I was rated already 50% on the back and didn't file for anything additional because I figured that I was already at the max except the Conv. Now they requested this C/P for a EMG and Nerve study, which I don't won't to every have agian. It hurt like hell. Anyway the Doc after the test stated that I had a slight decrease in the leg nerves due to wearing Boots and tight jeans. I'm 55 and haven't wore boots for over 10 years as well as the tight jeans. I still have muscel problems. By the end of the day I have to lift my leg with My hands and put in the truck, for lack of strenght to do otherwise. The pain in my buttocks and down both legs have increased and now after this test has been done, I don't know what the cause might be. I thought it was the nerves, but after what the EMG/Nerve study showes, What might it be, anyone else have any ideas as to the problem so I can go the correct doctor and find out. It can't be normal to not lift your leg or have control over such an apentage. Thanks Ret. MSgt McQueen

I've had Emg's and have shown abnormal results via testing by neurologist...yet MD in therapy dept says "you are fine, use a cane when you have trouble walking, and remind yourself to lift up your feet so you don't fall with some footdrop.

I'de like to give her footdrop right up her azz. It is no wonder why some vets get violent, just to get someone to listen to them and stop f*ing with their legitimate complaints and problems.

We have specialists diagnose the problem, and a general practioner or worse yet a nurse practioner overides it and we the vet, gets denied.

Why we all worked and suffered with pain all the years and tried to "tuff it up" and not file our claims astonishes me. Can't go back with wish I woulda, coulda, shoulda, but need to get someone to be fair at least once before I leave this earth.(not planning to anytime soon).

I hate to even say this because it may sound ignorant, but my accident was bad and actually compressed my whole spine, and for some reason periods of inactivity or any lil thing brings on sciatica... look it up, a horrible pain in the butt and leg area originating out of the lower back. Vamc blew me off, wouldnt even check it just blamed it on other SC stuff I had to go to a civilian hospital and by that time I could hardly walk but they took it seriously and fixed me up. And Ive never had a leg injury

Just completed another emg for C&P, dont feel bad, Im a younger veteran Id like to think at 32, I was dicharged on medical for injuries incurred on active duty, fast forward 3 months after discharge and the vamc does emg and its abnormal as 3 months before, however vamc does m.r.i. that says at the top of the page is of poor quality and tells me that it shows absolutely nothing wrong with me from my new primary care provider who is just going off the word of his nurse who was going to stick to his story until I had my nuerosurgeon from BAMC in San Antonio get in touch with him and fax me copies of M.R.I. reports from MEB. Until that happened I didnt recieve any treatment for something that almost had me crippled. Absolute insanity... according to my primary care provider the Army was wrong and I was a liar and my injuries never really occurred? I didnt like the way the man tried to treat me like a faker? 6 years active? 1st I.D.? combat tours done? Hell I reenlisted in a downrange? And yes I have anger issues, the police did have to escort me away from him and off station.

deviant,

EMG's and MRI's are completely different. An MRI cannot tell if you have nerve damage, but an EMG can. However, an MRI can tell if you have something impinging on your nerve or nerve roots.

Relative equipoise may very well apply in your case.

Also, don't discount the MH clinic (either VA or private). If they deem your anger is caused by your potentially SC condition, then once you get SC then you could work toward getting SC for a MH condition. A lot of other people here on Hadit have done it too. You might want to start visiting the MH clinic now, so that when you do become SC for your condition, you will be able to file for a secondary MH condition. Some MH conditions might require six or more months to accurately diagnose.

Best of luck!

I also have a separate question regarding EMG's and nerve damage.

Last month, I was treated with large amounts of oral and IV steroids. As soon as I received the IV steroid injection, both hands went numb and tingly. It has been a month and if I lift my hands up above my shoulders, like when I drive, I experience moderate numbness in several fingers, though not as severe as when I was injected.

Does anyone have an opinion on why this occurs?

Also, how would I go about filing a SC claim for it?

Thanks
