C-file Requests

Question

In October, I requested a copy of my C-File from my RO. In November, I received a letter saying they are working on my request. Last Friday, I sent an IRIS request asking for a date when I will receive my C-File. It has been a week, but still no response at all. This is eating into my appeal time...

When I went to the RO in October, I talked with one of the guys there. He said, "I'm not supposed to tell you this, but you can always contact your U.S. Congressman and they can speed things up."

Should I send another IRIS request?

Should I contact my U.S. Congressman?

What's the best recommended course of action?

good luck buddy!

I am still within the one year period, but I don't want things to get down to the deadline. I have had good response from my Congressman in the past, so I will probably take that route.

Thank you all for your opinions and advice! :(

71M10,

Thanks for the # of days.

Pete,

I already tried that. Last October, I called the 800 number and they told me I could drive down to the RO and request to review my records. I took a day off and drove to the RO. The guy at the front desk said I was told wrong. I also spoke to another guy, the one who said I could contact my Congressman, and was told the records are stored in a different building (a warehouse) and there were probably 700 people in front of me. For him to quote an actual number told me that he had no idea. Of course, the same guy spent most of his time socializing in the hallways, while I was waiting to speak with the DAV reps.

I have seen my records this way three times at Waco. Just walked in and they pulled them for me and sat with me while I reviewed and even made copies of some things I asked for.

Something is not right here and I would tell your Congressman all of this when making a request.

You have a point there. Nothing ruins your day like being shafted yet again by the VA... I'll definitely bring it up in my request.

Thanks!
