Do psychiatrists and social workers typically write up GAF scores in their reports? I know psychologists do, usually.

I know psychiatrists can do it and I think I had one done by my therapists once. She was a LSCW or something like that.

Sounds good. I'll have to get copies of my reports...

A GAF by a psychiatrist carries more weight than other type shrinks. The VA gives more weight to anyone with an MD by their name. In my state of Florida PH.D. clinical psychologists and psychiatrists have the same legal weight, but the VA tends to ignore this. In all the years I have gone to the VA I have never had psychological testing. Everything was determined by a 15 minute exam by a resident shrink or shrink-for-hire.

My husband has been seeing VA psychs for about 30 years, he has a GAF done every 2nd or 3rd visit which are about 3 months apart these days.

Remember the GAF is done without you knowing about it so you can't not influence the results, generally you only find out one was done when you get copies of your records.

We've had the psych announce she was going to do a GAF test once or twice and then she asked a series of questions, only to find out there was no GAF that day and the GAF was done silently the next visit, you gotta be careful..... those psychs can mess with you! :D

Anyway the short answer is yes they do records GAF scores.
