Rating Needed For Travel Pay

Question

Hi, I went to my VA clinic yesterday for a Dr. appointment. When I went to get my travel pay the clerk told me I made to much money I wasn't eligible. I told him I'd got travel pay everytime I've had a appointment since I'd reached 30%. He said I shouldn't have been getting it. Anyway I started asking a little louder questions he said he was going to call security if I didn't leave. I thought I'd ask and be sure I was correct about getting travel pay at 30% before I go back to the clinc tomorrow. Thanks for any help Phil

Hey Phil,

My VAMC travel department tried to tell me the same thing, so I had to prove it to them. Check this out:

http://www4.va.gov/healtheligibility/libra...aq.asp#eligible

  1.
Who is eligible for travel?

    • Veterans rated 30% or more SC for travel relating to any condition
    • Veterans rated less than 30% for travel relating to their SC condition
    • Veterans receiving VA pension benefits for all conditions
    • Veterans with annual income below the maximum applicable annual rate of pension for all conditions
    • Veterans who can present clear evidence that they are unable to defray the cost of travel
    • Veterans traveling in relation to a Compensation and Pension (C&P) Examination
    • Certain veterans in certain emergency situations
    • Certain non-veterans when related to care of a veteran (attendants & donors)
    • Beneficiaries of other Federal Agencies (when authorized by that agency)
    • Allied Beneficiaries (when authorized by appropriate foreign government agency)

Good reminder

The link I posted has internal links that will take you to various fact sheets, etc. While I didn't check all of the links out, it looks like you could find the answer to any situation thru this link.

Thanks everyone I printed out the paper work from the links posted. I'll be back to the clinc to pick up my travel pay tomorrow. I can't wait to show that smart mouth clerk prove that he was wrong. Thanks Phil

Just remember to be courteous. They can have security escort you out if you start causing a scene.
