Champva Supplement Insurance "do-Nut Hole"?

Rate this question

Question

Veteran is 100% PTSD / P&T

Spouse is covered with CHAMPVA, supplemental is ASI (very good coverage)

BUT:

it runs out when the vet turns 70, leaving the wife without supplemntal coverage at her age of 60

Is there any other supplemental coverage to fill the gap?

Can you post the regulation that says ChampVA runs out when the vet reaches 70? What if vet dies before 70? I want to see that regulation.

I'm sorry you are having to go thru this. I didn't read every single word on the ASI website but this link says (under termination) that the spouse is covered to age 65 (then you get medicare with ChampVa as the supplement). Of course there's the possibility that the web page hasn't been update with any new rulings. If it were me, I'd would look into the situation a bit further.

At age 65 the spouse must apply for and receive Medicare Part A and B to continue to be eligible for CHAMPVA.

Then CHAMPVA becomes the secondary payer -Medicare pays first.
