Question

How can the VA say that a Disease had to manifest itself within a year of exposure? when they didnt even recognize the disease until the veteran was ETS,d and many years down the road to deal with it.

I was'nt even diagnosed with PN until I was given an exam for SSDI in 2009

Do you mean the chronic preumptives in 38 USC 1112?

They are different from AO presumtives.and discussed in this link.

I have only seen one solitary award for PN that the vet could prove manifested itself to a level of 10% within one year after service.

In his case, he did not need to reply on the AO regs for PN as secondary to DMII but was granted direct SC as the Mil had diagnosed him with PN in service.

It's a dumb rule-no doubt about that. If you don't have DMII chances of getting S/C as AO Presumptive are little above zero (I'm trying to be positive). I'm also suffering from PN in all four limbs & I know it's not fun.

But, I don't have diabetes...Guess I could try secondary to PTSD, Prostate Cancer, IHD(CAD), Kidney disease, or other things too numerous to remember. My doctor told me "we don't know why 35% to 40% of people have PN." I told her I knew WHY, she just smiled & said nothing. I'm very much a survivor & this is just another bump in the road...does no good to keep telling myself "Why Me?" as my four old Grandson tells me all the time "Grandad it's just another day"

And the beat goes on

Look up PN and its causes on the web and see what fits you and take the info to your PCP and discuss if they feel it could be the reason.

Many medications we take can also lead to symptoms of PN I have been told. Also heart disease can limit circulation to your extremities and cause numbness similar to PN.

I am like you something caused it and you did not have it before you started getting the other presumptives.

Good Luck to you!

Did you have chemo/radiation treatments? Sometimes the cure comes with a hefty price.

Your Grandson tells it like it is...
