Possibly One Way To Determine If Va Is Processing Your Claim Under Nehmer

Question

BERTA: Per your question: Has anybody had a C & P for the new presumptives?

I had one back in April.

When I filed my claim for CAD(IHD) back in Jan, 2010, the VA Reno,NV RO assigned my claim number that was assigned to me when I had my original AO physical back in the 1980's.

So for those who are wondering if thier claim is going to be processed under "Nehmer"; my opinion is to check your claim number. If your claim number is not your SSN or Service Serial number; then your claim is probably being processed under Nehmer.

Your claim number stays the same as long as you have any claims at the VA.

In past before SS numbers were used the VA used a numbering system. Now almost all if not all claims for veterans is tracked by their social security number. If the VA is using any other number then it is likely because you have an early claim that had a number and it will not change.

I have not seen or heard of any special numbering of claim file folders due to any other reason.

That is good news to hear-Tom

As to the 'refer to number of 014DS333.'

This is an identifier for the VARO , and the initials are usually the person's initial's who is handling your claim.

The last three digits usually denote the VARO- mine is 307 Buffalo NY-I dont know what the other numbers mean.

I use the the referral initials after Attention to:

and then Veterans Administration Regional Office, etc etc on the envelope as well as in my letters or submissions-when I send them stuff.

No change from it numerically since it was my husband's claim number in 1983 except there is an X before the C

XC denotes the claimant is a survivor of the veteran after the veteran dies and they get 21-534 form.

Then I feel the post by Thomas that Nehmer claims are numbered differently is inaccurate. If our claim numbers or letter have only changed since the beginning of a claim. How would a nehmer claim be any different??

If they were I would be thrilled to know how to tell though
