carlie
No your wife cannot get health care through the VA Hospital. The VA did for a while let the wives of retired members use the Hospital, but had to stop that. Wish I could tell you your wife could, but it just can't be done. . This information is incorrect. Some VAMC Hospitals, provide medical care for the spouse and if not a VAMC Hospital - Champ VA has a list of provider's.
HadIt.com Elder Pete53 Posted October 6, 2010 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted October 6, 2010 Dallas VA allows ChampVA to use facilities with no copays but it ends when wife hits 65.
HadIt.com Elder Josephine Posted October 6, 2010 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted October 6, 2010 I am 100% P&T and my husband receives Champ Va to go with his Medicare. He receives all of his expensive medication by mail free of charge and Champ Va picks up all the tabs his Medicare does not pay. I am grateful for the service we receive. Forever grateful. HadIt.com Elder LarryJ Posted October 6, 2010 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted October 6, 2010 Yup, my wife has CHAMPVA and it pays off like clockwork and, the little bit that it doesn't cover (CHAMPVA does have a deductible) then her "supplemental" insurance to her CHAMPVA pays all of that. I have the supplemental policy through AMRA (American Military Retirees Association). So, essentially, my wife can go to any healthcare provider that accepts Medicare (those that accept Medicare must accept CHAMPVA) and ALL of her healthcare, medication, lab work, etc. is paid for. She has better healthcare coverage with her CHAMPVA than I DO (I'm stuck with having to go the the VA for my care, after all).
carlie
Thanks to all, my wife called the 800 number today and found out I am P&T. Everyone here is such a help. I will try to be of assistance when I can. jerior, Yes you meet the criteria for your spouse to receive medical care. Call Champ VA at 1-800-733-8387 They actually answer the phone within about a minute and they will gladly and cordially walk you through the information and exactly what you will need to do. They are VERY helpful there. If you have ANY problem send me a private message and I will make a call to someone up the food chain for you.
