Having an appeal at the DRO level is "supposed" to be faster maybe 30 to 90 days, a Traditional Appeal maybe 4 to 6 years. These time frames are not set in stone but again the DRO should be faster. As John999 said, if you lose at the DRO level, you can still appeal to the BVA.

It took 4 yrs with a DRO for me.

NOD is quicker from my experience. You can choose appeal if the NOD doesn't work out also.

The NOD is your notice of disagreement which can include reasons why you disagree. That is usually not enough to win a denied or low balled claim in and of itself. The NOD is the first step in the appeals process. One thing to remember is that claims take time. There is just no way around it. Even claims for presumptive conditions take time because you may get low balled and have to appeal.
