Back Pain When Sitting

I have miserable back pain when sitting. Does anyone know why this occurs? If I stand up the pain resolves mostly. When I sit and when I sleep for a while I wake up with pain in the lower back. Long car trips are impossible. I have had MRI and it really just shows minor disc problems, but nothing that would justify this type of pain. The doctors at the VA don't believe me, of course.

John:

Sorry to hear that. I used to have pain in lower back when I got up from a sitting position. The pain would be intense for a dew minutes and than work itself our. As it happened I became aware it happened when I would sit leaning slightly forward position sort of akin to many who sit on toilet. I quit doing that and have not had the problem any more.

I think it is more like a kink in the back and of course the VA is not interested in mundane things like helping a Veteran stay out of pain.

Hope that you get better.

Minor disc bulges can be a real pain.

Sitting is one of the worse things for back pain. I reconfigured my area to be ergonomic. Everything from proper lumbar support to setting everything the keyboard and monitor height up perfectly. It helps some, but I try not to sit for more than an hour.

I find sleeping on my side with a pillow between my knees makes a big difference.

Try 4 disc bulge in the neck my left had works just sometimes and not. Been waiting for 2 weeks to see a doctor been to the VA ER room here in Portland 2 times due to pain being so bad that I can not sleep and vomit due to the pain. Going it to Shock. The ER Doctor did X ray and a Cat scan, MRI till the figured out what was going on. I am not going bitch about the Care I received it was free. If I had to pay OSH for this care I would be paying till I die.

Where is the pain localized John?

In my lower back I guess around L-5. I know some of the discs are getting thinner. Lately, it has not been so bad. I can't account for this except to say I started new exercises. I did quite a bit of bending a few days ago and had a minor relapse. I have been able to come off the oxycodone to a great extent. Most of this is due to fear of the VA making rash decision to just eliminate my narcotic pain killers. I don't want to be there when that happens, so I have detoxed myself. I don't have really horrible looking spine, but just pain which is aggravated by sitting and bending. I notice if I get too relaxed my back will hurt after a while.
