Attorney Wants Diagnosis for Secondary Complication to Rated Condition; Must it be through VA?
Cat4Christ777 posted a question in IMO Independent Medical Opinion,
Originally, this secondary condition was claimed as 'migraines,' but while it may begin as a migraine with a complication, the VA can--and has, more than once--made it so much worse (pain-wise). If it does not qualify as a migraine, then my attorney and I need to come up with a different diagnosis. It's definitely a neurological issue, possibly 'occipital neuralgia,' as the condition meets the criteria of its definition, here: https://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/occipital+neuralgia.-

VA Math, Confusing, Right? Calculate Your Final Rating Percentage!
Tbird posted a blog entry in Tbirds Blog,
10 + 50 = 50 and other VA math mysteries explained.
VA Math It’s Not Your Mother’s Arithmetic
“VA Math” is the way that the VA computes combined impairment ratings for multiple conditions in a Veteran’s compensation benefits claim – and it requires that you unlearn real math. When a Veteran has multiple medical conditions that are service-connected and the Veterans Affairs rates each at a different percentage, it would seem that they should just add up your percentages to get to a total body impairment rating.-

The reference to K. P. is our own Kurt Priessman whose work regarding Thailand and AO has helped MANY Thailand vets succeed on AO claims.
The recent C & P directive on Thailand vets as well as reference in the 2010 Edition of the VBM are directly due to Kurt's efforts.
"Based thereon, in September 2009, the Board remanded this case
for further development, including so that a request could be
made to the Armed Forces Pest Management Board ("Pest Board")
for information regarding the use of herbicides at the Takhli and
Korat Air Force Bases during the relevant periods. A March 2010
response from the Armed Forces Pest Management Board reflects
that while they did not maintain any records specifically
pertaining to the Takhli and Korat bases relating to the periods
of time the Veteran served there, the Pest Board directed VA's
attention to several other sources of information (and enclosed
copies with their response letter), including an article written
by retired sergeant K.P., who, according to his article, served
at the Korat Air Force base in Thailand around the same time as
the Veteran. This article indicates that herbicide agents were
used at the Korat Air base beginning in June 1972. See Herbicide
Use in Thailand, K.P., at 18 (quoting Checo Report, Base Defense
in Thailand, U.S. Air Force, Maj. B. and Capt. B., Feb. 12, 1973
at 68)."
I have attached the BVA decision this is in and an additional Thailand vet award.
We sure should all be proud of Kurt and his exemplary advocacy to Thailand vets and their survivors.
