Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Question

filed back on aug 17. went to the rating board oct 27 and still nothing. im rated 70%, thought it would be an easy decision :( its getting very discouraging to say the least.....the 800# told me it was an average of 16-27 days @ the rating board and another 10-14 days @ authorization. im way past average for rating. what could possibly be the hold up??

thx, carlie. i may have to suck it up and make the trip out to roanoke. if the time limits do not apply, then why do these folks throw it out there? seems like false hope....

clw,

If you possibly can - I'd go to my VARO in person to inquire.

1-800 - is not an answer.

Also, those time limits do not apply - VBA doesn't have time limits

and their estimates are usually not accurate.

clw,

Notice the words they use, "average" - then ask yourself - how many "average" claims do you know of ?

Also, the amount of days are derived from statistics that are skewed, usually in their favor.

Of course this is only my opinion - it, along with a dollar and change will get you a huge iced tea

at Mickey D's.

"i think the SSA may actually beat the VA with their decision. lol!!!" I sssume you filed for TDIU?

That could happen.Husband got SSA solely for PTSD in 5 months (based solely on VA clinical records).

He had filed in 1992 for higher VA SC as he was 30%.

The award for 100% SC came in 1997. He had been dead for 3 years already. They didnt want to consider the SSA Award.

I see you are at 70% now.

Does your evidence at this point combat their statements as to why they didnt consider you for TDIU in that award?

i have no clue why they didnt consider me for it before. my GAF was either 40 or 50 at the time of my initial award. maybe that is what the hold up is? they r trying to figure that out. my initial award was w/ the Nashville VARO & i am now with the Roanoke VARO.

im about to send off my records SSA requested now. hoping to have that decision soon.
