Dea Chapter 35

Rate this question

Question

VA only has a few Educational departments that are affiliated with VAROs.They handle all DEA CHap 35 stuff as well as the GI Bill.

Does the jurisdiction for DEA reside where the award letter came from?

In other words- my daughter is in DC area but her Chapter 35/GI Bill contacts would be in Buffalo VARO Educational Dept.(I think?)

Then again the DEA award came days before she left for USAF so she was within Buff VARO jurisdiction then and Buffalo handled her Cert Of Eligibility after she was discharged using her DC address.

I am asking for a vet who just got a VERY nice award from VA and his daughter lives out of state but I think her DEA would have to go through Buffalo too as that is where his award came from.

Thanks

Berta,

This can be answered by the people at DEA at 1-888-442-4551. Every time I have spoken with them, I have received very helpful and courteous service. Thumbs up from me.

Thanks Bonzai-I will pass that number on to the veteran.

I did give him the VA Edu email addy I always used for DEA.

They too were almost always very helpful.

But I reminded too that once I questioned by mail something regarding my daughter's DEA and I got a very nice letter back from

VA Edu Department reminding me that my daughter, a veteran, and an adult, and would have to write to them herself under her own C file number. They were right.

So he will need to pass this info on to his adult kids who might be eligible for DEA retro.

They would probably answer his basic questions at this point though.
