Countable Income For A&a Pension

Rate this question

JAB

Question

My mother receives A&A and it's time to complete the EVR (Eligibility Verification Report). Last year she had to withdraw money from her small non-Roth IRA to pay for home repairs. Of course, it will be reported and taxed on her 1040 return, but should it be counted as income when filling out her EVR?

thank you

Maybe this would be good questions for Carrie Weletz Wed night at SVR show.

I pretty much doubt that this would trigger tax consequences unless she is younger than withdrawal age.

I thought that ROTH was set up to pay taxes as you go and if that is so there should be nothing to worry about unless it is early

If she got an Instruction Form # 21-0510 with the EVR, page 3 under "Report under annual income:" says that IRA distributions have to be reported. Since VA "talks" to the IRS, I wouldn't leave it off. Good luck.

you should report all income. the IRA is also a part of her net worth and should have been reported to the VA.

The IRA was reported as an asset. I know the interest is income, but I wondered how an asset can become income. I suppose I can report the withdrawal and let the VA decide how to handle it.
