  • Can a 100 percent Disabled Veteran Work and Earn an Income?

    employment 2.jpeg

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Ils Program In The Beginning Process...

Question

I was recently denied Voc Rehab and ED... I am 100% P&T. I talked to my counselor about getting a new computer (the one that I have is borrowed) and possibly some wood working equipment for starting my furniture hobby. He didn't see a problem with it, but apparently everything gets discussed between ALL of the counselors on a daily basis. If he thinks that there is a possibility of being approved - he will come out and do an evaluation and put it on paper for what I need overall.

I will keep you all posted, as I have seen some other posts about hobby ILS questions.

Greg,

Would you like to share why you were denied VocRehab?

Consider getting word of your situation out to VFW, local news etc and some folks might be happy to help.

I would guess that, since you are 100% P&T that is why you were denied Vocational Rehab. They may have done you a favor, for if you COULD be Rehabbed then you would not be eligible for 100% P&T (as in Permanent and Total, doncha see?).

But, that is mere speculation on my part.

Don't sell ILS short it is much more than just getting a computer. It is supposed to help a disabled veteran stay in their home. Done right they will look at your home and see if there is other stuff that can be done to make your life better and keep you out of assisted living.

They also will consider hobbies and fixing bathrooms or kitchens and even other stuff.

Pete, you are, of course, right. ILS is a great resource and they, like the chap 35 and CHAMPVA folks, usually do a very good job.

The reason(s) for my denial was my findings for Unemployability and the fact that I am 100 P/T. I am not going to sell ILS short, but rather use it to the fullest extent. Guess I am looking for anyone that may have asked for things like a gym set up, and / or woodworking set up??? Thanks all for your input!

    • I would like to meet other Hadit members who live in Michigan.  We have at least two major VA Hospitals (Battle Creek, Ann Arbor).  Or maybe you go to the the John Dingell in Detroit.

I like Ann Arbor.  I like the fact that most of the doctors there are also at the UM Hospital.  I don't like how uickly they seem to turn over though.

    • Really?
I am confused.  A few days ago I spoke to a person at a VARO who said if I die from something other than service-connected my husband gets zero, zilch, squat.  Hmmmmmm, it seems the rules change willy-nilly...I have been rated 100% P & T for over 10 years, MS is static, and I am 56 years of age.

Can a fellow Veteran shed a light on this?

      Thank you.

    • Fund raising for HadIt.com
The site is supported through ads and ad free subscriptions, we are also asking for any support you would like to send our way. You can give a $1 or more it all helps. Keep in mind though that it is NOT tax deductible and we are NOT a non profit. As the site grows so do the costs and ads and subscription do not always keep pace with the costs. Any help is appreciated, but not required.
