I HAD MY RIGHT KNEE REPLACED IN JAN 08 AND HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS (SEVERE PAIN, CLICKING SOUNDS WHEN IT BENDS, WEAKNESS TO WHERE IT GIVES AWAY AND STIFFNESS)I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO VA DOCTORS THREE MONTHS AFTER SURGERY ABOUT MY PROBLEMS. AFTER MONTHS OF GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM ORTHO DOCTORS TELLING ME PAIN WAS IN MY HEAD AND THE THE CLICKING NOISE WAS NORMAL AND I JUST GOT WEAK THIGH MUSCLES AFTER REPLACEMENT I STARTED DOING MY OWN RESEARCH INTO MY PROBLEMS. I GOT COPIES OF MY SURGERY REPORT TO FIND THE REPLACEMENT DEVICE AND THEN I WENT ONLINE TO CHECK OUT THE DEVICE AND FOUND THAT THE FDA HAD A RECALL ON THE DEVICE BECAUSE OF NONCONFORMING INTERNAL CAM RADIUS. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON MONDAY AT THE ORTHO CLINIC AND WILL PRESENT MY FINDINGS TO THEM. I HAVE NOT HAD ONE DAY FREE OF KNEE PAIN. I AM HOPING THAT I CAN GET SOME ANSWERS FROM THEM WITH THIS INFORMATION I FOUND.

HAS ANYONE HERE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS?

HAS ANYONE HERE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS? I had double knee replacement a couple of years ago-I continue to have pain, symtoms like you describe. What is the make of the implant you have?Thinking mine might be the same.

I had a partial knee implant that failed and was revised to a total but that partial has not been recalled.

What type of prosthetic knee did they give you? I now have a Depuy PFC Sigma, rotating platform. Hurts like hell

Did you get the newer implant which required an MRI in order to perform the surgery or the older one that's been out for ever? I had mine done in 08 and had to get the older style cause I moved during the MRI 3 different times. Also, they asked if I wouldn't mind participating in a study that required my presence at the VA every so often. I think the study was 1 year or longer. But being I ended up with the older style implant, I didn't have to participate.

I GOT THE ZIMMER NEX-GEN CR-FLEX KNEE BUT I ALSO READ THAT NEX-GEN MIS KNEE COMPONENTS WERE RECALLED TOO. YOU CAN REQUEST A COPY OF YOUR SURGERY RECORDS FROM RELEASE OF INFORMATION OFFICE AT YOUR LOCAL VA HOSPITAL WHERE YOU HAD YOUR SURGERY.

Are you rated 30 or 60% on the TKR?

    • These decisions have made a big impact on how VA disability claims are handled, giving veterans more chances to get benefits and clearing up important issues.

      Service Connection

      Frost v. Shulkin (2017)
This case established that for secondary service connection claims, the primary service-connected disability does not need to be service-connected or diagnosed at the time the secondary condition is incurred 1. This allows veterans to potentially receive secondary service connection for conditions that developed before their primary condition was officially service-connected.

      Saunders v. Wilkie (2018)
The Federal Circuit ruled that pain alone, without an accompanying diagnosed condition, can constitute a disability for VA compensation purposes if it results in functional impairment 1. This overturned previous precedent that required an underlying pathology for pain to be considered a disability.

      Effective Dates

      Martinez v. McDonough (2023)
This case dealt with the denial of an earlier effective date for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) 2. It addressed issues around the validity of appeal withdrawals and the consideration of cognitive impairment in such decisions.

    • I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

    • Caluza Triangle defines what is necessary for service connection
Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”
