Scars

Question

Can someone explain what a scar disablility would be?

Could this be from having surgery? For example-if you have heart bypass surgery-you would of course have a huge scar from you neck down to your stomach as well as your leg if they use a vein and even your arm if they use an artery. Would this be example of scar disability?

Your specific question can be answered at CFR Title 38, Chapter 1, Part 4, subparagraphs 7800 thru 7805. To get to it enter www.gpoaccess.gov/cfr/index.html , when it comes up do a search using 38cfr104.7800.

It spells out exactly what is ratable and the rating schedule.

If it's a whopper of a scar, I suggest you take several photos and include them with your claim. Take close up shots to capture the texture and discoloration of the scar, and a distance shot to capture the impact on the entire torso and the leg. Pictures are, indeed, worth a thousand words.

That's absolutely correct. If the scarring fits the criteria described in the rating schedule, file for the scars separately. It is not pyramiding; my husband has a separate rating for scarring due to a service connected condition that required surgery.
