    employment 2.jpeg

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

First On Cnn: Panetta To Recommend Pay Cut For Military

Question

Just days before he leaves office, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is recommending military pay be limited, effectively decreasing troop salary next year.

Panetta will recommend to Congress that military salaries be limited to a one percent increase in 2014. The Pentagon has calculated that the 2014 Employment Cost Index (ECI) from the Labor Department is expected to be above one percent, but wants to still cut back on pay
due to “budget uncertainties,” one department official told CNN. In 2013, a 1.7 percent increase was approved, based on the ECI, which has been the basis for military pay for the last several years.

Three Pentagon officials have confirmed details of the plan to CNN. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have also agreed to Panetta’s proposed pay plan. Final approval for the pay would come from Congress in the form of the 2014 budget.

Is the correct term "pay cut" or "reduced raise"?

Either way, it looks like our troops will be getting the shaft.

Yup, they will, John, just like good puppets should. I recommend we start learning Chinese, as I feel they will eventually take us over. We'll have no military to defend us, unless we count on the NFL. jmo

Heck -

Here's the parts that scream out to me .

"The recommendation is tied to the Defense Department's 2014 budget recommendation,

which was expected to be sent to Congress this month, one of the officials said.

But the

officials acknowledge it is going to be seen as an effort to push Congress to stop the automatic budget cuts

that could go into effect if no deal is reached on spending reductions."

"CNN has also learned that this week,

the Navy is expected to announce

it does not have the money to pay for refueling and maintenance of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln.

That will essentially mean the Navy is short a carrier and overseas deployments will be cut.
"No good options exist," Panetta said."

Fact is that when the War is over the Military takes a big hit. Always been that way no matter who was running the show. One of the problems with all Volunteer is that many want to get their 20 years while draftees mostly want to get out.

    • I would like to meet other Hadit members who live in Michigan.  We have at least two major VA Hospitals (Battle Creek, Ann Arbor).  Or maybe you go to the the John Dingell in Detroit.

I like Ann Arbor.  I like the fact that most of the doctors there are also at the UM Hospital.  I don't like how uickly they seem to turn over though.

    • Really?
I am confused.  A few days ago I spoke to a person at a VARO who said if I die from something other than service-connected my husband gets zero, zilch, squat.  Hmmmmmm, it seems the rules change willy-nilly...I have been rated 100% P & T for over 10 years, MS is static, and I am 56 years of age.

Can a fellow Veteran shed a light on this?

      Thank you.
