Getting a DBQ or letter can differ depending on who you are working with and where they are located.

I had better luck getting a specialist to write me a letter, but that was before DBQ's ever came out.

My primary care doctor always refused to write a specific "letter" because he said his notes "are in the system", even though they were inadequate and incomplete. I referred to him as a "flipper", he was only interested in taking care of the patients and flipping them out of his office.

If you are getting care from the VAMC mental health clinic, each department director has the ability to set policy regarding whether they will fill out a DBQ or provide a letter, or not. Some facilities may say that it could impact doctor - patient relations and say no.

I have had four primary care docs in the last 10 years. Only one would write letters and he no longer works for the VA. The VA ended up finding a reason for firing him. He was my first doc, since then no one else wants to write a letter in fear of getting fired!!!

hello brothers and sisters been a while since my last post . I have been waiting on my dr to send me the letter I was needing to finally get this over with he put together a letter that supports my claim I think this letter will be what they were asking for posting a copy of it here. to get opinions as to whether it meets the qualifications of what they say is sufficient to connect the service connected conditions I removed his name out of respect for him and his willingness to actually do this and sign his name to it any thoughts or opinions will be appreciated

Are you SC'd for SA and or hypertension ?

It would have been alot better if the opinion was supported with some medical rationale.

My husband had Tri-Care and he didn't have much luck getting opinion letters either. His Pulmonologist worked on base. He is the doctor who first told my husband that his cancer started a long time before he retired. He later told us he would write a letter. In fact, he said he would be happy to do so. Then he called a couple of days later and said the base attorney said they aren't allowed to write letters for VA claims.

The oncologist also said they weren't allowed to write opinions. He said the VA has their own doctors and makes their own decisions.
