Question

Hi Everyone

I spoke to a lawyer about helping me with my case where the VA denied me for my back claim since I didn't follow up after the accident when I was on active duty back in 2001. The lawyer told me to find a doctor who would be willing to do an IME or an IMO to link my back pains to my military accident. I found a doctor in Fort Worth where I live and I mentioned to the doctor that I was seeing a chiropractor and he told me that he wouldn't be able to make me an appointment to see him until I faxed him over a copy of the treatement record from the chiropractor and then he would make me an appointment to see him. What I wanted to know is this normal for doctors to want to see paperwork from another doctor and if not can anyone recommend a docotor in the DFW area if anyone knows of one who knows how to do a IME or a IMO

Eric

Yes, if they have all you SMR's and current medical records. They can review your C-File, SMR's and current records and write an opinion. Or you can go visit them and bring all the records. You must have the records so they can say they reviewed them. I think an IME is stronger than an IMO based just on records with no exam. I could be wrong.

An independent medical exam (IME) report will always carry more weight, as the doctor actually examined the patient. An independent medical opinion (IMO) report can be done just by reviewing the medical records. IMO/IME reports can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands, depending on how long they take and how many pages of records they need to review. They are well worth the money!!!

The main issue of the IMO or IME is the fact that the VA will discount the IMO if the doctor does not have the history. Get a copy of your claims folder.

Take it to a Doctor to get it done. You may want to listen to this radio broadcast we did last week.

http://www.hadit.com/svr.html Listen to Dr Bash / John Dorle. First one

Here is an older archive from precious show.

This is normal....because I assume the VA has ,or should have, the same treatment records.

An IMO/IME Doc needs the whole nine yards.

Also they would want to see the results of any C & P exams you had for the same disability. And ,in my case, I had Dr. Bash do 2 IMOs, and I sent him the SOC and SSOCs as well for that claim, as well as the med recs and C & P results..

Also it often pays to even do a healthgrade check,if your VA doc who did the last C & P is listed at healthgrades.com.

In my case the VA doctor was listed there with a short bio , but her expertise was far out weighted by the 10 page CV I got from Dr. Bash.

I assume the inservice nexus for your back injury has not been challenged by the VA. ?
