I type much faster using all caps. so no, I'm not yelling. Please look over this thing I've been mulling over & give me your opinions if you or other vets you know would go to something like this. Or would possibly volunteer in some way.

Please give a show of hands with a simple response "yes-would attend" or "yes-would volunteer" or "no"

PR--

At this point I don't know who the sponsors would be. I do know I would NOT be looking to get any service organizations or government organizations involved. I've had enough " help"from them, thanks!

At this early stage I would be looking for a hotel in Vegas that would sponsor the event by providing a conference room and comped hotel rooms. This would be in the name of charity and helping veterans. Nevada is one of the most veteran friendly states I've come across. I have a few contacts there who could probably secure something like that. If we couldn't get a hotel, then we would have to find a sponsor who would cover that cost.

As far as the doctors I would be asking them to do one or two days worth of volunteering their time on a Saturday & Sunday. Many doctors get involved in charity work so I'm hoping we could find some charity minded individuals. Again, if we couldn't find enough docs to volunteer, then we would need to find a sponsor to cover that cost.

GarlicBreath--

Something big like this would take many many people working towards the same goal so I would think maybe five or six months which would put us at October.

I haven't come up with any thoughts on getting the computer equipment and the secretarial services we would need. Any thoughts, anybody?

I think a big part of making this successful would be to have some folks who could go through the vets SMRs and recent denials in advance and prepare all the documents for the physician to review.

I posted the number of vets at 400 which is just an arbitrary number but, that's a number that would make it worthwhile for all the hours and hours of work that an event like this would require.

Not so long ago I was heavily involved in a charity event for dogs and we had 800 people show up. Took about 50 or so volunteers to make that happen.

This is a pipe dream.

Kind of like lets do a million vet march on DC.

Vegas properties will not donate nearly enough space,

doc's won't come and volunteer their time, many sick and

disabled vets are unable to even get transportation or have the physical

or mental abilities to attend, etc . . .

I was under the incorrect assumption that this was something

already set up or at least - wayyyyyyy in the works.

An event of this nature would take probably at least a committee of 20 people

that all had some fabulous connections, around a minimum of 18 months to even get off the ground.

Many members and VBA claimants going thru the claims process, have dreams of doing

something like this, but IMO it is not physically or financially feasible.

I wish you great luck and success in this endeavor.

You get it all carved in stone - I will gladly attend and add what I can.

Carlie passed away in November 2015 she is missed.

I wish you luck. This would be a massive effort and would need funding in a major way. I do know that the DAV is having their national convention in Las Vegas, NV

2014 National Convention

Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel and Casino
3645 Las Vegas Blvd South
Las Vegas, NV 89109
Telephone: 1.800.634.3434

DAV has been making historic strides in protecting the rights and needs of our Veterans for close to 100 years. From the creation of the forerunner to the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in the 1920s, to caring for the returning heroes from Afghanistan and Iraq, DAV has responded time and time again to the changing needs of veterans by ensuring that their voices are heard by our Congress. We invite all DAV members to join us in the spirit of service and fellowship at next year’s National Convention in Las Vegas.

I am writing my memoirs and would love it if you could help a shipmate out and look at it.

I've had a few challenges, perhaps the same as you. I relate them here to demonstrate that we can learn, overcome, and find purpose in life.

The stories can be harrowing to read; they were challenging to live. Remember that each story taught me something I would need once I found my purpose, and my purpose was and is HadIt.com Veterans.

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
