Granted Iu 1 Dec

Question

Hi,

I was granted IU back in early December. I'm rated at 80%, but receive 100% compensation.

I read online through the VA site that Veterans with IU are eligible for comprehensive dental. Which I really need. My teeth are falling apart due to grinding and clenching (from my anxiety), overall not taking care of them (due to my depression), not having the money for it (it's going to be a lot of work), and my PCOS (causes Vitamin D deficiency).

I've heard stories of those on IU denied the dental care. I would be absolutely gutted (and would probably have to get all my teeth extracted and wear dentures. I'm only in my 20s).

Had anyone experienced any issues or denied dental from the VA?

Hey Nemo,

I am rated 90% with IU and have been able to get dental care with no problems. If you are 100% or IU, my understanding is you are entitled to dental care. Good luck and hope you are able to get the care you need!

"would probably have to get all my teeth extracted and wear dentures. I'm only in my 20s"

In my area, the VA will often recommend the above, whether it's most appropriate or not.

Why? It's the cheapest solution! Never-mind that implants might be more "modern", and more acceptable,

and the VA dental clinic has a prominently displayed poster touting implants.

Since the area VAMC Dentists don't do extractions, (Perhaps a blessing)

Fee Paid is used.
