Sleep Apena

Rate this question

Jim MAC

Question

Ok I am trying to help a fellow Vet. He is SC at 50 percent for his upper and lower back. He applied for sleep apena and was turned down because it is not in his military medical records. Is there a way to SC sleep apena because he can no longer do any type of workouts? Has anybody ever had any luck with this?

Thanks

Jim

Was he diagnosed with SA within 12 months after he left service?

Getting a SC for SA is very difficult if not DX'd or Clinician notes in Mil Records. I got my SA SC 2010 as a Secondary to CAD DX SC 2006. He might consider seeing a non VA Sleep Specialist. If he's porked up substantially due to his SC conditions, it's a stretch, but you never know. Going from a 151/2 to a 17+ inch neck could cause SA. It all depends on the Dr's DX and clinician notes. My Sleep Specialist, a Neurologist, put most likely caused by my CAD DX in his clinician notes.

Also, ask him if he's had any kind of head injury while in service. You'd have to get a SC to TBI first, but Apnea is often SC'd secondary to traumatic brain injury. Might be a long-shot, but it's worth looking at. The end result could be two ratings.

Good luck

The only thing about seeking a private specialist the high cost of it sleep study's alone are expensive some vets just can't afford it!

Seems like I remember reading about SA that some medications can cause this?

His VA PCP should help
