Pete

Louisiana also has the exemption for widows of 100% Vets if she doesn't remarry. Check with each Parish (county) for details. The exemption is double the Homestead Exemption which is $75,000 for everyone.

Thanks! I am going to check that out in my state. I know they have exemptions that pass on to the spouse. At the time of my husband's death, they told me he had to have the exemption in order for it to be passed on to me. But I think I am going to see what I can do now that the BVA has granted SC for his lung cancer (which would be 100%).

One thing that works against survivors is that some benefits seem to be geared toward the veteran's claim being complete during their lifetime. Personally, I think they should come into play whenever service connection finally gets granted. But I don't write the laws.
