Hired Dr. Bash

Question

My wife was denied Asthma and headaches in 2011. The appeal is currently at BVA and after I had her pull her file from her CVSO, I realized her vet rep was rather incompetent. (Her claim was a real mess and I knew she would lose if something didn't change fast).

My first step was meeting with John Dorle. We bought her paperwork and met at a caribou coffee in Elk River MN, 4 weeks ago.

He proceeded to go over all her paperwork and give us his opinion. He informed us that we would lose and are representation we currently had was inadequate to say the least. He also advised us if we hired him, we should hire Dr. Craig Bash as well.

I was very impressed with John. He seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. He came up with a plan that seemed to make sense rather quickly, so we took his advice and hired Dr. Bash.

We then met with Dr. Bash accompanied by John. He looked over my wife's file and felt confident that he could help us. We hired him that day and wrote a check. He also provided IMO's for new secondary conditions and said he would attend any conference we might have with BVA.

He then contacted us later in the week and asked us for more money because he felt that her case was stronger than he first anticipated. I thought it strange that he would renegotiate an already negotiated price but we agreed.

We paid a lot of money, and I am wondering if any of you have had a bad experience with Dr. Bash in a claim. (If you lose, does he just ride off in the sunset? Does he really live up to his name, ect ect)? I understand that no claim is a guarantee and the VA has a rather large bag of tricks to screw Veterans out of entitlements but I hope these guys will fight for us.

Thanks,

I paid DR Bash $2,000 and he later asked for more several times He said my case would receive SMI level of compensation and that I would get K$$$ in retro back pay therefore I should have been willing to pay more;he initially asked for 10,000$ . The report he gave me was chaotic and disorganized it had soneone els's information mixed in and I did not realize it until I had submitted it to the VA. I had to go into the document and cut and replace erroneous information and correct typos.

His letter was enough to re open my claim however did not help at all with the later decision /Statement of Case. His letter was barely even mentioned in my Statement of Case. I received 20% increase for conditions I pursued and documented on my own from my Primary care doctor. That is just my experience nothing more nothing less. But I paid him $2000 that is lost forever.

just think you are lucky, what if you paid him $10 grand

This is the first derogatory statements about Dr Bash?? I seen here on hadit.

I always have heard good things he does for the veteran...maybe he had a plan? were not attorneys ! maybe Dr Bash left that in the report for a reason? you should called him and ask him about all that?

I heard he spends his own $$ getting IMO'S & phone calls emails copies, gathering evidence ect,,,ect,, a lot of other costly things he does the veteran don't know about... ...so hence the extra payment.

This all should have been decided when he was Hired.

Hey RU,

first of all hope you're doing well brother. My situation is I Acquired Asthma in service after deployment to Saudi Arabia in 1995 diagnosed with Asthma ever since, with meds albuterol, advair, , inhalers, pills, . Have about 30 pages worth of SC Asthma stuff. I was also deployed another 2 times after that, I was denied upon retiring in 2011. Didn't know anything about Appeals and what not. What Dr. did you use for the IMO in florida? just curious , thank you...

Folks:

Does anyone have a list of Attorney's besides, Dr Bash whom have been helping vets on Hadit.com? I'm sure he is worth the money but that's between the client and the attorney. I don't know of any attorney whom will give a client a guarantee of winning a particular case- but some are better than others? That said, I think it's fair to discuss the fees of what the attorneys are charging to do their work and this is a very specialised field. Also, like everything else, some are better than others and you usually get what you pay for. I personally don't trust attorneys because of my own experience. But, I was young and trusting when back then I did and I should have done more research in choosing an attorney. On that paticular ocassion, I hired an attorney whom advertised in a well know government magazine. He had a great reputation (or so I thought) for winning his cases, but when I asked him what his record was, he was unable to give it to me. When I got him an the phone, he made all kinds of promises? He said, "I'll do everything, you will not have to lift a finger" but you have to pay me in advance? Also, he went on to compare himself with regard to other attorney's in terms of keeping clients informed - like myself --how good he was and I should have taken caution right then? Anyway, that's where being young and trusting came into play because I bought it, "hook, line and sinker" and was fooled? Also, he said I'll take it to court on my own dime if we don't win? That same day, I wired him $7,500.00 in 1989 to him. Anyway, to make a long story short, he never personnally communicated with me again directly after he got the money, and outsourced to a lawyer $1,200.00, just out of law school to handle my case. The outsourced lawyer, used a verbatim case template from another similar case and put the original attorney's signature on it? Also, there were several deadlines that had to be met and none of them were ever met which hurt my case? Over a 3 month period, only 2 of my phone calls where ever returned after calling every single day to try and get a case update. Anyway, I'm sure that there are good attorneys out there but my own experience stays with me when I think of attorneys. Next time, I hope not to make the same mistakes if I need a disability lawyer....
