Locating Records? Active/reserve

I'm still trying to locate SMR's & hospital records.....

On the e-vetrecs it asks if you were active or reserve.....

husband was active, but when he got out, he was placed on reserve for 5 years - could his records be under "reserve" would they be stored differently? Or "miss placed" or are they all together?

Also for his GW1 - how/where do you request those records?

It depends on the branch of service in most instances. If you do a Google search for "Standard Form 180" it will show you where the records are held and to be requested from on the second page.

Hospital and treatment records for GW1 deployed troops have to requested by date and facility. They are not in SMR's or listed in the veterans files. They are stored by facility. Request them by facility not by the name of the veteran.

Example. I had to request treatment records from St. Louis by giving them the facility I was treated at and the date. 5th Fleet Hospital, 10-17 Jan '91 for head injury and Landstuhl Army Hospital, Germany, 17-? Jan '91 Head injury.

There is a database you can call to see if the records are there. I'll find the # as soon as I can.
