I don't think you need combat duty to prove your stressor just being in a combat zone with mortars falling all around in a hostile enemy territory is in fear for your life & witness a suicide bomber you can make a statement as to where this happen time and date so they can connect the dots.

Go an get statements in the form of sworn declarations. Try and FOIA you unit records for those specific days (of the events mentioned) and see if you can get that info. I am on week 8 of a FOIA to the USMC for unit records so its not a quick process (mostly because everything is still classified, etc.), they are very courteous and helpful actually.

The combat award helps, but its not a prereq, definitely not a prereq. I would get those sworn declarations and if there is any medical evidence that followed any injury from the attacks that can help.

Look in my tagline for how to gather/submit evidence as it has a template for a sworn declaration.

get as many buddies as possible and do one for yourself that lists the incident, what happened, and then give a rundown of when the symptoms started, what they were, how they made you feel, and then go on to how you are now and how it affects you now. dont diagnose yourself you are not a doctor, just the facts ie. this happened, i started to feel this at this time, and i feel this way now and this is how it affects me now.
