VBMS P. 1 dated 07/02/2015 STR's P. 4-5 Sinusitis.

STR's P. 4/7 pseudoephedrine RX for ALLERGY symptoms.

STR's dated 05/26/2005 P. 4-5/93 noted 6 simultaneous diagnosis: URI,

allergic rhinitis, viral syndrome, sinusitis, bronchitis and acute

bronchitis.

Rhinitis noted on STR's P 58/93. Being treated with medications for

allergies

and nasal congestion, however in the past medical history of 04/07/2009 NO

allergy or hayfever was entered in the note

Andyman,
The 30% rating for "more than six non-incapacitating episodes per year of sinusitis" needs to be "characterized by headaches, pain, and purulent discharge or crusting." If you see a doc for them, you might consider not taking the OTC meds before you go to the doc. It would be better to have the actual symptoms on record, not the reduced symptoms after you take OTC meds. Also, keep a "sinusitis diary" which describes when it started, symptoms, what you took, saw doc, duration, etc... I did this for migraines and it was helpful.

I only go to the dr. if the sinus infection goes beyond 4 weeks, or is causing my temp to go up.  I don't want to weaken my immune system anymore than it is by taking antibiotics 6 or more times a year...and then end up with a sinus infection that I can't beat with out surgery.

I only go to the dr. if the sinus infection goes beyond 4 weeks, or is causing my temp to go up.  I don't want to weaken my immune system anymore than it is by taking antibiotics 6 or more times a year...and then end up with a sinus infection that I can't beat with out surgery. 

This makes sense. Also, sometimes it can take two+ continuous courses of antibiotics to clear it out. Steroids like prednisone are sometimes also prescribed. I don't like taking those at all, but sometimes it is necessary. Too many of those can really jack up your system. If you are looking for sinus relief, the VA prescribes Nasonex nasal spray which can provide better long term control of sinusitis relief without all the side effects of antibiotic or steroid pills, but it is not for quick relief.

I'm just curious, do nose bleeds go with sinusitis?  It seems so often that when I have a stronger episode my mucus has blood mixed in.

It happens to me periodically. Saline rinses help. I bought a "neti pot" to do the rinses.

Even using my CPAP with the humidifier in it, doesn't make any difference with the frequency or severity of my sinusitis episodes.  So many times I put some Vicks on my nose just so I can even breathe a little easier while wearing the cpap.

I am going for BVA remand exam for sinusitis. I had surgery in January for the condition. The remand exam is to seek a medical opinion if chronic sinusitis is related to burn pit exposure. Any resources would be helpful.
