Brothers and Sisters - Our CarlieCash had a heart attack Thursday and flatlined at home, 911 was able to get a heartbeat again, but to much time had passed. She is in a coma and recovery is not possible. Her wife Lucy has been handed the difficult task of letting her go and her decision is to wait until Veterans Day to honor Carlie and to let her go to her reward then. I am sure that Lucy and Carlie would appreciate all prayers and kind thoughts sent their way. I am heartbroken.

Their address

Lucy Croft

1702 - 55th St So
Gulfport, FL 33707

There is no common law marriage accepted in Florida.  I assume Carlie was cremated since that is all they accept at the Bay Pines Cemetery.   There are two other National Cemeteries near one being in Sarasota and the other in Bushnell that do burials.  Florida is a funny place.   There are well over a million vets living her and they are all treated just like &^%$.   Since I got the bad news about Carlie I have been thinking about my own funeral.  I better pre-arrange it because I don't think my spouse will stand up to it very well.   It is so sad when it is sudden and you have no chance to prepare.

She will be cremated Dec 4 at 2:15 PM EST at Bay Pines.

You are so right John999 it is better to leave your significant other set because the emotional toll is hard to bear up under. We have a couple of things on this topic check out htis post http://community.hadit.com/topic/64855-veterans-survivors-preparing-things-for-them-in-advance/

I am so sorry to hear of Carlie's passing. My prayers and condolences go out to her wife Lucy and Hadit family. I only recently joined Had it, but I read posts many times before I began posting and her advice and compassion were invaluable and went above and beyond on every post. I wish I had had the opportunity to thank her, so to every member and guest who contribute on this site, Thank You for taking the time to help others. God Bless Carlie.

Lucy applied for DIC at the RO and they did not give her any problems. She was already listed as a dependent in Carlies' records. Hopefully it will go through without any trouble.

Carlie was born on October 8,1956.

I found the last discussion I had with her on DOMA but they will not have the required one year marriage requirement in for DIC for Lucy...that is awful....Carlie was always so concerned about her partner.....

I dont think Florida is a common law state either.......VA does recognize common law marriages in the common law states.

This is so sad.

Lucy got the word today she was turned down for DIC and Social Security because they were not married a year. She is going to talk to an attorney to see what they think.
