I need help with bilateral math its confused the hell out of me.

I got Flat Feet Bilateral 30%

Sleep Apnea 50%

PTSD 30%

GERDS 30%

Esophagus stricture 30%

Bronchiectasis 10%

Left Foot Injury 10%

Tinnitus 10%

Bilat 30% comes out to 33%. You do Bilat math first, then the rest of the disabilities after.

There is a VA disability calculator out there on the Internet that includes the bilaterals. 30% for bilateral flat feet wouldn't really register differently on a rating. It is 30%. Calculating bilaterals consists of being rated independently for each side. 

Thats my experience in working for VA.

Which is the correct way for calculating bilaterals (before figuring in the other ratings)?

1. All bilateral ratings calculated together into a single rating then add 10%?

2. Bilateral disabilities paired (i.e. both arms, then both legs) and calculated as separate ratings and then add 10% to each?

Bilateral factor is calculated after bilats are all factored up. You don't add 10%, you take the bilats total (combined of all of them) and multiply it * 10% of that number, then take the 10% of number and add it back to the bilateral combined total.

 

10 +10 bilat (say, feet)= 20. 20 *10% = 2, Combined now 22%
