Question

On eBenefits today, my husband read the following:   You have a 100% final degree of disability. This percentage determines the amount of benefit pay you will receive.

The section we're not sure about is the SMC part.  What does the following mean for him?

Entitled to special monthly compensation under 38 U.S.C. 1114, subsection (s) and 38 CFR 3.350(i) on account of coronary artery disease and bypass graft surgery times three rated 100 percent and additional service-connected disabilities of erectile dysfunction, bilateral hearing loss, posttraumatic stress disorder, tinnitus, independently ratable at 60 percent or more from 02/05/2016.

Thank you so much.

My husband received his disability packet yesterday with the award decision.  Some of it confuses up, certain things make us extremely thankful, and other parts leave us slightly worried.  Would someone else interpret some of this of us?  Prior to all of this, my husband was rated at 50% for PTSD with 10% SMC for ED.  We also received a retroactive payment in the amount of $7362.19 today - how that was calculated is still a mystery to us.  His heart surgery was last September, he was rated 100% for the first 3 months following that, and then he filed a claim for an increase in February.

I would look into an NOD for the Jan 1 2016 reduction.  Further, it's possible that home bound status (SMC S) might be applicable,

since the veteran likely could not leave home for work.

Actually, you are receiving SMC S & K for the housebound status and erectile dysfunction loss of a creative organ. The compensation for the SMC K is $103.23 additional a month. The S1 rates are dependent on the number of dependents, but a Vet with spouse would get $3,415.74 plus the $103.23 per month.
