To be short and sweet i found out I am facing an MEB today. i am wondering what i might expect for benefits and how they work. Some ppl say you cant take va compensations if you get 30% MEB or more. others say i will have to pay back my separation pay if i take it ($90,000 maybe). and i really dont know how to judge what money i will make outside the Army. i have bad feet, ankles, knees, hip, back, left shoulder, ptsd, anger issues, migraines, sleep apnea, restles leg sleep disorder, depression. if all of these are 10-20% 140-280 %  what do i do?

I am very sorry no one replied yet to your question...did you mean your MEB was Tuesday, the day you posted?

http://www.pebforum.com/site/

This is a very good forum for PEB/MEB questions but we can handle many questions here too and have MEbers and PEBers as well

Were you able to get a PEBLO at your Mil installation?

All of the conditions you mentioned should be claimed.

Are there any Vet reps ( DAV, AL, VFW) on or near your base?

I will try to find more info on what you were told ....and post it here.

One thing to do...make sure you leave the Mil with a full copy of your STRs and even your personnel file if that too is available.Make sure your exit physical notes all of the above problems as well.

I assume ( but could be wrong-I am a civilian) that MEB/PEB AD get full out processing briefings like all other AD do.

My daughter (USAF) went to the VA one they did for the Navy because she had many briefings to get to and she said it was a fairly good overview of the basics and they had a vet rep there to answer questions.

If you can get to those briefings it would be great. Someone there  might be able to help you file the claim right away.

These links will answer the separation pay question:

You might be set for a PEB when the MEB is finished.

It is hard to determine how the ratings will go at this point but the VA, as I understand it, must follow the same rating that the Military gives you.

You can always appeal any VA rating that you think is too low.

    • These decisions have made a big impact on how VA disability claims are handled, giving veterans more chances to get benefits and clearing up important issues.

      Service Connection

      Frost v. Shulkin (2017)
This case established that for secondary service connection claims, the primary service-connected disability does not need to be service-connected or diagnosed at the time the secondary condition is incurred 1. This allows veterans to potentially receive secondary service connection for conditions that developed before their primary condition was officially service-connected.

      Saunders v. Wilkie (2018)
The Federal Circuit ruled that pain alone, without an accompanying diagnosed condition, can constitute a disability for VA compensation purposes if it results in functional impairment 1. This overturned previous precedent that required an underlying pathology for pain to be considered a disability.

      Effective Dates

      Martinez v. McDonough (2023)
This case dealt with the denial of an earlier effective date for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) 2. It addressed issues around the validity of appeal withdrawals and the consideration of cognitive impairment in such decisions.

    • I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

    • Caluza Triangle defines what is necessary for service connection
Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”
