Well in General Champ VA is excellent insurance  they pay the provider when medical provider submits their voucher  electronically as most medical providers do.No problem  there

However this is the first time we had any issues with Champ VA... after 15 years.

Be sure you file for all your Wife's RX Co-Pays immediately, back to your Retro Award Date. The printout that's available from most Pharmacy's does the trick.

As to continuing to carry, non VA Med Ins, strictly a judgement call. Life or Death Surgery, Cancers, etc, who do you want cutting on you or treating a Cancer?

VA has given me great medical care, but when it comes to Surgery or Cancers, I want the "Pro's from Dover," let the VA Fellows train on someone else.

A number of Nam Vets, myself included, carry Full Boat Medicare Part B, No Deduct - No Copay. The $145 monthly per person, is worth it to us to be able to access any hospital or Medical/Surgery Specialist we choose, without the 20% co-pay.

When I was young & single, didn't worry about Medical or Life Insurance. Now, the Closer to God thing, comes into play.

Nobody gets out alive, you just don't want to go early because of an Oops in surgery or an error in DX or Treatment of a Life Threatening Disease.

My wife is having trouble getting the prescription card from ChampVA since she got Medicare.   I have had to go to my congressman just to get the ChampVA to do their jobs.  My wife just will not really take responsibility for her end of making sure ChampVA pays.  I always have to nudge her.  I told her if I have to get the OPM insurance again she is going to pay for it.   What got to my wife was being put on hold for 30 minutes.  When she had ChampVA she also had NALC insurance via OPM.  When she got Medicare I dropped the NALC insurance since she would have Medicare A&B and ChampVA.  Since that time everything seems to have stopped working.  I have to do everything because my wife is unwilling to stand up for herself and make sure ChampVA does what they are supposed to do.  She thinks it is my problem, but it will be both of our problems.  I may get the NALC family plan or One Plus Two plan.  This will be expensive and this is due to ChampVA dragging their asses and the fact my wife just lives in La La land when it comes to future medical problems.  Both Vets and spouses need to understand that the VA will not come to you, but you need to go to them.  You must make the effort.

I have a long time friend that just got Medicare and somehow believes he does not need a drug plan or medigap plan.  People can have their heads so far up their azzes because they think they will live forever or be healthy forever.

I agree with you, we have to be our own best advocates and stay on top of things but I can honestly say that ChampVA is not timely at all.  If I send in a claim, it takes them months to send it back usually saying there is an error (which is usually bs) and I resend and get my check but I have gotten to the point that if it isn't a significant amount of money I don't even bother anymore, more of my time than it is worth.  Funny that you also had to get you congressman involved.  SAD!
