Question

I have total service connected disabilities rated at 80%, with one condition at 40%, and will be applying for IU.

What are the benefits of IU? PX/BX, Commissary, ID card...?

There's an Reg A$$ IU Rating, pays 100% SC Level $$, but could and will probably be reviewed on a C-File Diary Date Basis. An Basic IU Rating is never permanent, unless you've held it for 20yrs.

Then there's the coveted IU T & P No future Exams Scheduled, Award. This is definitely not an automatic Award. If your SCs that got you the IU Award, are "NEVER" expected to improve for the remainder of your life, as determined on a facts found basis (Dr & Med Recs), you get the T & P & possibly the "No Future Exams Scheduled" statement.

Age isn't considered in the basic IU Award but definitely comes into play with the T & P No Future Exams part of the Award. Think about it, medical chances of a DX improving for a Vet 35 is a hell of a lot better than a Vet that's 65+.

Even reg SC awards, are not scheduled for Re-Exam after a Vet is 55. Filing a New Secondary claim would probably require a re-exam but other than the New Claim, Vet shouldn't have to worry about a reduction exam after 55.

A sharp VA Rater would probably schedule a Rating Re-exam at age 53/54.

You should request the P&T

There's a big difference being IU &TDIU P&T

Like Gastone mention  usually P&T your disability is not expected to improve during the remainder of your life and no future exams scheduled.

With the TDIU  P&T  You get more benefits like chapter 35 ChampVA  and education allowance for family military ID Cards commissary letter.

Although You can get the property exemption with 100% check  with your state or county tax office in which you live for the property exemption.
